Mazda speed shifter vs. B & M???

Hey Guys...
I have the Mazdaspeed shifter now. And have Upgraded it from the C's. I found the Mazdaspeed smoother, the throws
were similar to the C's. But easyier to get into reverse.
The Mazdaspeed and C's are similar in construction.

Now, I've heard the B & M one is quite good. Anyone have
this? And what are your thoughts? This looks like quite a
different design. Is this B & M noisy as well? And how short are the throws?

thanks for the replies jc.

I just installed a B&M shifter and it is great. A little tight at first but in a few weeks it's about the same as stock shifter (smoothness) It shortens throws by about 25-30% and 2nd to 3rd you'll NEVER miss. It has a cool design (seems better made than the others since it is one unit unlike the others) Mine doesn't rattle at all but I've heard that you have to take the plastic/rubbery ball off the end of the stock shifter and put it on your shifter - if you don't - it will probably rattle. Most of those end pieces on the stock shifte break off though. I'd recommend it to anybody - makes driving the FD more fun.

I agree...the B&M is great. I actually thought I had done soemthing wrong the throws were so short.

Mine rattled at first, but stopped doing it after about 6-7 short drives. It rattles every once in awhile.

It is a nice piece, and you can get it from Summit for $175..

Later,
Patrick

That is great, kwikrx7 :

I've tried C's and B&M, I prefer the B&M.

a couple Last questions...? for you B & M user's...

How smoothly is it to get into reverse as well?
And is the Throws shorter than the Mazdaspeed or c"s?

Thanks 1fast7... I'll check out the search...

thanks for the replies jc.

I have the B&M and have come to find that the shifter is great. The shifting is smooth and easy. I haven't tried the Mazdaspeed shifter yet, but I hope to try it one day. Let me know how it works.

what about the Pettit?? i havn't heard anything bad about it yet. but then again...its the same thing as the C's.

GoRacer 02-23-02 01:13 AM

Huh, Pettit's made by C's?

I was thinking of the Pettit because them claim to "never" miss 3rd gear again. If it's actually made by C's, then for the money i'll get B&M.

max. tt boost 02-23-02 03:38 AM

Yes the Pettit sells the C's...
I had it for a few years...
It was a definitely shorter than stock but It was hard to get into gear when the car was fully warmed up at times. I do think the C's had a slightly shorter throw than the Mazdaspeed though.

But the reverse gear was hard to find as well on the C's.

The Mazdaspeed and the C's are very similar in ways of build quality and fit.

But I did notice the B & M to be totally different. Construction wise.

I'll probally check out a friend's that lives in the town here. And then decide if I will upgrade or keep the Mazdaspeed.
