Mazda Anti-Theft

Well I just put in my boost gauge and unplugged the battery to do the electrical work. When I hooked it back up I ran the car and made sure my install was done correctly. Code was flashing but I was more concerned about the boost gauge then the stereo. Thing is I turned the car off and on three times and now it is flashing err. Manual says I have to have the whole damn stereo replaced! What bullshit!! Is there nothing I can do?? I didn't even try to enter a code, manual says enter three incorrect codes makes it shut off, not powering on and off three times. Anyone have experience to share!?

Silex 02-22-03 06:06 PM

Yeah there's method to turn off that light. I believe it involves the brake pedal. I can't help with anything else other than that. The method to doing it should be in the manual.

Engberg 02-22-03 06:37 PM

the manual only says if the code is entered incorrectly three times you are screwed and have to replace it. Like I said I just cycled power three times and "err" permanetly flashes and I can do nothing, the unit is completely disabled. I'm pretty pissed right now as it is one of the most rediculous things I've ever hear of!

Silex 02-22-03 06:51 PM

It's a pretty common problem on car stereos. You would have to go against all things use RX-7 owners believe in and take it to a mazda dealership for them to reprogram. As long as they don't touch your engine, you should be fine ;).

Knifeboy 02-22-03 09:14 PM

Try this:
Press "SCAN"
Press "AM/FM"
Press "AUTO M"
Press "TUNE UP"
When the display shows "----", enter "1414"
Press and Hold "SCAN & AUTO M"

Hope this works.

Is "1414" the code for your personal unit or is that like a generic reprogram code?

Silex 02-23-03 02:21 AM

No harm in trying eh?

Knifeboy 02-23-03 05:52 AM

I believe it's generic. My deck doesn't have a code programmed so I know it ain't mine. Good luck.

That is the correct unlock procedure for all the radios. 1414 is not specific to his radio.

lost_rotary 02-23-03 06:21 PM

this happened to my car before. just unplug ur battery and let it sit there for around 5 minutes. plug it back in and it should reset or the error should go away. if not then i think u'll have to replace it. try the 1414 thing though that might work too?

Ward 02-23-03 07:29 PM

if you take it to the dealer to fix it, they used to just use this code. the same code worked for my radio. it is the way

Heath 02-23-03 10:04 PM

Lost Rotary is incorrect.......Do the code listed and the radio will unlock. Do not go to the dealer and do not replace the radio. If the code doesn't work you need to keep trying until it does.

lost_rotary 02-23-03 10:22 PM

how could i be incorrect if i did it and worked for me?

Heath 02-23-03 11:27 PM

You stated that he would have to replace it if unplugging the battery didn't work. Personally I don't see how unplugging the battery can work once the "err" is displayed. It is an anti-theft feature. If and when the unit is stolen power is of course terminated. Why would the design allow the radio to work by just reconnecting power? Unless the unit is broken in some other way replacing it is absolutely unnecessary. The code can and will work unless the radio is malfunctioning in some other way. It is the built in unlock procedure.

a buddy of mine told me before is you take of the -cable on the bat and press the brake for 30 secs or so it restets evryhting. but i could be remebering wrong so yeah good luck with it

Thanks Knifeboy! This procedure worked just fine in unlocking my radio!!

jagjack 02-24-03 04:45 PM

Hey thanks, you idiots.

Now the thief who steals my radio can
just search this site for the code to
unlock it.

WTF is wrong with you guys ?

ijneb 02-24-03 04:54 PM

ohh, wow nothing like a 93-95 stock rx7 cd player, im sure the kids would love to pimp that shit

Knifeboy 02-24-03 07:32 PM

No problem Engberg. Glad it worked.

Heath 02-24-03 09:01 PM

Yeah, at first I though it was BS just to post the unlock procedure but then I thought about how shitty the stock cd players are anyway. Oh well, too late now.

Engberg 02-25-03 10:24 AM

Holy cow I hope you are joking! If someone who stole the radio wanted so damn bad to unlock it he could just sign up and submit a post asking the same damn question. BTW, I doubt they'll know about this retard security feature before stealing it!

This is awesome and what an excellent resource this website is. My FD stereo just now chose to do the anti-theft/ lock-out after the many times my battery has run down completely or been disconnected over the last three years of ownership. I have the original owner code but I did it wrong 3 times. I think Mazda may have overestimated how many FD stereos would actually be stolen and spent too much time on this tricky little feature.

 at you being afraid that someone wants to steal your 20 year old radio...

In fact if you find such a poor sap, treat them to lunch or give them 5 bucks. Whichever one as either is a better deal than the radio lol

GoodfellaFD3S 03-03-13 11:30 PM

^Hey, back in 2003 it was only a 10 year old radio :D

Tip: If you see the quoted text in bold, it's probably an oldddddd azz post ;)

Montego 03-03-13 11:41 PM

^ so what are you saying? jagjack is not gonna read my post?
