Marvel Mystery Oil as Pre-Mix
Is it safe to use MMO as a pre-mix? I have done it twice with no problems. It seems to me that MMO would make a good pre-mix. TIA

I've been doing it for the last 5K miles. Nothings blown up yet, hehe.
|
Yeah I've been using it for about a year now w/ no problems. Seems to smooth out the idle.
|
I use it, car runs great, smooth idle too.

I have used it for the past six months. I put about 4 ounces in every full tank of gas. I can say that at the very least it hasn't hurt in fact I think that it is what eliminated the smoke at startup thing that I experienced when I first got the car. I definately suggest using it.

I'll leave my fuel straight (hehe) next fill up and see what happens. |
I've been using the Protek-R from Pettit and haven't had any problems with it. I've heard that basically it's 2 stroke oil. Mainly increases lubrication within the engine.

i asked this DUMB question BEFORE...BUT when you guys say PREMIX.....4 ounces at fillup....you ACTUALLY PUT the PREMIX(4 onuces) of OIL into ur GAS tank???? im STILL LOST!!! isnt that BAD???

Wow ... good thing you ask. No, they actually put it into the windshield washer fluid. |
would MMO be applicable as a premix when using a Haltech? i know it requres premixing absolutely, but haven't heard what premix is best in its application..

how often should the MMO be put in. ive heard good things about it and would like to try it. also, what about putting some in your motor oil. would that hurt?

why synthetic in the premix?
i thought synthetic didnt burn as well and left more deposits in its wake? although i dont know about their 2 stroke line.... i have a friend that is using 2 stroke only for the injected oil....crazy set up but seems to be working... |
Yes, it is synthetic. Mobil oil is one of the CLEANEST burning oils in the market. It will leave less deposits when compared to other oils. Not only will it burn cleaner, but since it is synthetic, it will last longer through a cumbustion.

Won't adding oil to the gas affect the octane rating? That might not be the best thing to do.

Ya, any ideas what 10 oz of 2-stroke oil will do to the octane of 15 gallons of 93 octane gas?
Thanks, Kevin |

This amount would be negligible in comparison to the overall gas octane. Unless you are running at the edge all the time, it should not matter much. Also, 10 oz seems excessive compared to other peoples numbers used. If you use one quart (32 oz) of oil injected every 3000 miles via the oil injection (Oil Metering Pump) with an average of 15 mpg and 15gallons per fill-up, you have 13.3 tankfuls of gas. This averages to about 2.5 oz/15gal tankful that is injected in your engine. Although the premix oil is thinner, doubling it at 5 oz/ 15gal tank should be more than sufficient. Most people do not use a full quart between oil changes at 3000 miles also. Since the oil is mixed with the fuel, you get a better distribution in the combustion chamber for lubrication. Tim |
I use MMO, I use 4 oz for every 1 gallons and that seems to be enough.

I add MMO as Premix at the track (along w/ octane Booster, we only get 91 octane pump gas here in CA) and I add a qt of MMO to the engine oil at every oil change. since adding the MMO it has reduced the "Smoke Signals" at start up and reduced my oil consumption, I now get to go about 100mi further before I have to add Oil.

Where can one pick up some MMO?
I have used the Protek R stuff from Petitt....but if I can buy the MMO local, I will switch to that. Later, Patrick |
Marvel Mystery Oil (MMO) is available at any Pep Boys, Track, Kragen etc parts store. It is available in pints, quarts, gallons, and stores that deal with fleet users can get it in 5gal and 50gal drums. Lots of Big Rig fleets put it in their Diesel Fuel. I buy my MMO in gallons from my local Pep Boys.
