In the market for a 3rd gen rx7
 

I'm from an island in the middle of the mediterranean. Surprisingly Rx7's are not that rare here.


My decision has been narrowed down to two:

Rx7 number 1:

Has 70,000 Miles? on the screen, has very recently had an engine rebuilt (no smoke, clean engine) and is completly standard and in excellent condition. Two seater. In Red

Rx7 number 2:

Has 107,000kilometres. Always had an oil change but never had a full engine rebuild. New tyres, welbro fuel pump, high flow water pump, stainless steel coolant tank, full extras, dvd player, 10" sub woofer Nearly standard and in SUPERB condition. In Red - completely factory spray.


The kick is that the first rx7 is $1000 more expensive than the second, hence why I am more inclined at buying the second rx7. And the second one seems to have a few sensible engine mods inclined for a healthier engine.


What do you guys reckon?


However, I do not wish to do a full engine rebuild sometime soon. I'm only using the rex for a sunday driver.

Hands down, without a doubt, no question in my mind number one.

Number two is going to need a new engine soon. Probably VERY soon as from the mods you've listed it would lead me to believe the owner liked to go for "spirited" drives.

You'd be crazy not to buy number one.

Edit: you're going to spend a LOT more than the $1000 price difference on number two in no time to bring it to where number one is.

Have you read the Buyer's Guides in the 3rd gen FAQ thread?

If so, can you get compression numbers or at least know how much vacuum it pulls at idle?

Compression & champagne test is a must. Like every one else said #1

id go with the one with the new engine, make sure you see documentation of this new engine, and get it compression tested to verify it is in good health.

actually id compression test any fd you plan/consider to purchase.

1. but before you do anything dumb, get an idea for how these cars are. you can make it a reliable car.. or very unreliable car. And in my opinion (and probably quite a few others) the best mod you can do for an FD is to buy a separate Daily driver.

If $1000 is making your decision difficult it's probably better for you save up a few more pennies before becoming an fd owner. Just being real

That's a very good point!! ^^^^^ I blew my budget of 10k for my rebuild and other mods long ago.

Read up man.

Unless rx7 #2 has been built by a reputable shop and has been taken care off I would ignore it.

If rx7 #1 has had the motor work done at a reputable shop I would take it.
