MAP help (quick question)

FINALLY got my idle issue figured out. its my map, which is starnge because i was DAMn sure I tried it before. anyways. I unplugged the airline to it and the idle went to normal :icon_tup: does that mean I need to BUY a new MAP? or is there a way to clean/fix them??

you can clean them with a q-tip and some rubbing alchol but i would go to napa and buy some maf cleaner and do it with a q-tip. what type/ brand maf are you using? i dont recall having an air line conection to any of my camaro or cobra maf sensors just the electrical plug. i say just put a filter on it or plug it.

We have no MAF on our cars. You're probably referring to the MAP sensor. Put a new line on it and make sure to run an inline filter to prevent debris and moisture from getting to it.

on a side note, the MAP in ther rx7 is doubling as the MAF correct? i read about it... i think. lol. i got invited to be in the new rob schneider movie.. 12 hour shoot.. exhausted

MAF uses a plunger if you will. This plunger moves depending on air flow. A map sensor measures vacuume and pressure levels. I don't understand what your problem is with your sensor. I assumed when you said you unplugged the line you meant there was a physical plug in the line. If you unplug the map sensor the car will not run "normal." It will either not run or run like the motor is blown...

my car would "hunt" during idle. I disconnected the airline and it dropped to normal... and STAYED there. no more hunting

thanks, but I really fail to still understand.. if I figure out how to test it and its bad, does that mean I have to buy a new one? or is there a way to calibrate or repair it? I might be able to locate someone to just let me use theirs for a few minutes so i can see.

Yes.

That's an easy way to verify a problem without needed to do the exact tests. Plus, it only takes a minute to swap one in.

FWIW,

Here are the results from my '94's MAP sensor test back in 1995, done with a MityVac and multimeter:

MAP Sensor Characteristics

With Ignition ON –

Condition.......................Spec.............. .......Measured

19.7” Hg vacuum.......1.25 – 1.55 V..........1.18V (@ 20” Hg vacuum)
0” Hg (atmos)............2.38 – 2.78 V..........2.68 V
14.3 psi pressure........4.35 – 4.65 V.........4.58 V
