Man this was stupid
 

I went to start the seven for the first time in a long time. One of my intercooler pipes was off. It was the one going into the intake elbow. My dad must have taken it off or something to look at it. It didn't totally appear to be off. So i started it (didnt' give it any gas the whole time it was on)and it started smoking after a few seconds...then all of the sudden died...wont start now, i think its flooded, i can smell unburnt gas like crazy. I got the intake pipes all on now. What can I do to unflood it, or get it started right, i need help quick, i wanna get the bastard running!
Helpful posts only, i don't want any "you're an idiot" or "how could you do that" BS from the immature 7 owners, just some tech help. I highly doubt there's any motor damage or anything.

haha, at least your not being one of those stupid 'honda type people' on the seven site. Thanks a lot for the link man! That shit helps. I saw one post where its talking about cleaning the plugs and then putting them back in, sounds right, i've done this 5 million times on flooded MX bikes. Also someone said if you have a good battery that will enable you to crank for a few minutes then it should work, unfortuntaly I guess im going to have to take out the plugs and clean them. I'm guessing that leaving the IC piping off didn't really hurt anything, its not like the motor got too much air (it couldn't have possibly got more air then when the turbo's shove air in there) but the fact that it was only on for less then 20 seconds made 'er flood. Could something like that potentially damage my motor?

I've also heard that this works just as good.....?

I'm not sure the hose being off is related to your car dieing. I have had my car running before when I had a crappy intercooler hose pop off under boost. Nothing abnormal except no boost. If the hose was off for a while something might have made a home in the pipe and gotten sucked in. If so you might never get her started.

Take the spark plugs out and clean them. While you have the plugs out put your car in gear and push it to crank the engine.

no, no popped off vacuum lines or anything...just the fact that the intercooler pipe wasn't affixed to the greddy intake elbow..its a hardpiping kit ....and it was sucking in fresh cold as hell air, and just flat out stalled...im pretty sure its flooded, i think i'll either clean the plugs or pull the fuel pump relay and crank it over a few times to see what happens. i'll keep you guys updated..but i really don't think its that big of a deal...thank though

The type of engine management system the FD has (speed density) allows you to run with pipes missing or big holes in the intake piping without messing up the mixture. There is no air flow meter, and the manifold pressure sensor works equally well with all the piping or no piping at all. So, the disconnected pipe is not responsible for any change in your mixture.

You could have sucked something in, the MAP sensor may have been disconnected, or perhaps it was just cold and the engine stalled after startup. Why did your dad have the pipe disconnected? Perhaps he was already working on the problem.

Dood - take it easy on the cranking no matter how good your battery is. No more than 5 seconds a shot, then let it cool off for a few minutes -or you'll be adding a new starter to the mix!

Sheesh! I guess I'am a stoopid Honda people - just bought a 2002 CRV last week for the wife - iVTEC engine, very nice package. Fuggehdaboudit for 100K! Typical bulletproof (yawn) Honda engineering. Anything to keep her out of my 7!

Don't even bother trying to clean the old plugs - just put new ones in. Now that's smart money.......

If you live in a town like I do no one has your plugs in stock. Spray them down with carb fliud and light them on fire that cleansthem. I had an extra set on me so I didn't do this, but I heard it works well. another tip is when you have your plugs out and your cranking the motor put some paper towels in the whole a little bit. this will soak up the fuel pretty well provided they don't blow out when you are cranking the motor. Don't stink them in to far either just the base of the whole. I don't know what other tips are on the link, but ATF helps raise your compression as well. It seems to get into places oil can't. this helps it fire. She will smoke a little bit when you get her restarted also you ECU might be in limp mode. it will drive like shit if it is. just unplug your negative battery cable and step on you brake to drain the ECU then let it set a few minutes and hook it back up you will be good to go. good luck

yes, we had to put the airpump on because emissions testing is coming up, also he had to take the alternator pulley off which means he had to take the alternator off...he just took the strut bar, and intercooler piping comletely off to make it easier..he just forgot to fully connect the intercooler pipe ...he left it open at the elbow
I did get the car started, but it will not stay on by itself, and it sounds terrible while its on. I'll have to clean the plugs and all that and see what happens, i'll keep you guys updated, thanks a million fo the help and suggestions

Sounds like the same problem I'm having. My car flooded out pretty bad (pulsation dampener) so I've parked it. I went to start it up just to keep the seals in good working order and it was running like shit so I turned it off. I'm waiting on new plugs because noone in the area carries them. I'll probably try to clean the old ones and re-use them for the time being. Seeing as how the mail system has made it a habit to lose my packages in the mail :mad: It's been going on 3 weeks since I ordered my hose kit too!
