M2 large IC mods to stop unwanted heat from radiator.
 

Anyone has ever done any mods like putting a heat shield to stop the heat coming from the radiator? It's cooler on the battery side of the IC. You guys think by putting Thermo-Tec Adhesive Backed Heat Barrier would help the problem? Thanks.

I think this is one of the cons why alot of you went FMIC.

i doubt that will have any noticeable difference in performance for a few reasons:

1 when you're moving quickly and your ic is at its best the hot air isn't going straight up but angled up and back toward the engine

2 the lower part of m2's ic is less critical than the top because the outlet pipe is located on the top

3 following up on 2, if you get down really really low and look up into the duct you'll see that the most of the air is directed toward the right and upper side of the ic core because of the way the duct is shaped. and once again, that's the part that counts

i personally think a nice low pressure region behind the ic will do more than using the wrap because it would increase airflow through the ic. that's what i don't understand about some of the vented hoods i've seen. they must have been designed to create a lower pressure region for fmics :(

The reason why you are feeling the heat at one side of the intercooler (passenger side) is, that is the side where the tubo output is going into. The battery side is cool because the intercooler is doing it's job. Nothing should need to be done to the radiator to help this. It;s the way the cooler works.

Thanks guys for the 411. I think it's not going to hurt if I try the Thermo-tec idea. I'm just going to cover the end tanks (passenger side) of the IC. Has anyone put an electric fan behind the IC? Thanks.

It put on one side of my intake box because I had a couple rolls lying around...summitracing had a decent price on it...

get a vented hood. this will allow the ic to stay cold.

I put some aluminized fiberglass on the bottom of my IC/duct to reduce the amount of heat it sucks up from the radiator. I also added little alminum stays to keep the bottom of the IC from sliding back away from the duct. And I added a high-performance 10" fan from Perma-Cool. The fan helps a lot during dyno tuning, but I don't know how much the other stuff helped.
