lube recommendations?
 

what type/weight of oil can/should i run in my engine? i read a few places that SYNTHETIC can ruin the apex seals, but i've read other places that people swear synthetic is the only thing that is good enough for a rotary?! also, with the redline transmission lube... stupid question coming up so if you are easilly irritated please stop reading... does that replace ALL of the fluid that's in it currently or is that more of an additive type thing? one last question, will pre-mixing keep me from passing emissions?

reg syn it is up to you. buy what you can afford.red line is a solid fluid. i like it and you will have to drain the trans and refill it. i use their mtl some people say it is not thick enough so you can also use 75/90. passing emmisions has alot to do with the mods and how healthy the car is

so i'm thinking then i should drain the trans and fill it with the MT-90 possibly and that sythetic won't kill my apex seals... but i'm still a little lost on the emissions... won't the extra oil burning off show up as excess polution or is the 4oz. a tank not enough to show up?

If the rest of your emissions components are functioning properly, you'll be fine.

Opinions will differ regarding the subject, but IMO, synthetics are overrated. Under normal driving, regular dino oil changed every 2-3K miles/2-3 months will do you just fine. Personally, I use Castrol GTX, 10W30. You'll lose your apex seals to detonation more than you ever will to what type of oil you choose.

thanks for the info guys and thanks SpeedKing for the link that really sured things up for me... fyi, i just fed my baby her first bit of MMO and good God almighty does it make a difference. add 4oz, filled her up with 93oct and drove at about 4k down the highway for around 10 minutes... when i came to a stop to turn around and head home... purrs like a kitten :) i think i'm gonna go with the MT-90 and probably castrol syntec 10W30 next change.

any words of wisdom on how to clean the throttle body? i was at pep boys earlier (ala the MMO) and was reading some of the spray cans and a number of them said not to use on a rotary engine?!

BTW, before you try Castrol Syntec, I was told by a local rotary mechanic (with 18 years experience) not to use it. I have no direct experience but I'm strictly going by his word and will pass along the info, FWIW. He's taken apart engines that have been run with Castrol Syntec and he finds that it leaves a varnish type residue on the internals. OTOH, engines that have been run with Mobil1 are very clean and look new.

As far as cleaning your TB, just use liberal amounts of carb cleaner and a small brush. Your car also may idle higher than normal afterwards, and that's because having a clean TB is allowing more air into the system. Just adjust your idle screw to bring it back to normal.

any specific brand of carb cleaner you recommend? like i said some of them said not to use on a rotary... i'm afriad the others might have the same results just not list it as a warning... and yet again, thanks for the oil advice
