Low Coolant Level after Radaitor change
 

Hi guys! I need a bit of help here....
I changed my stock radiator of a new one (Fluidyne) and i also changed the main lower hose pipe. After filling and burping the system i noticed that the upper hose was leaking so i changed that too. However, the next day i checked the coolant level from the middle cap and noticed that it was quite low but still visible. So then i refilled it with coolant and topped up the AST too. Could this be because of air bubbles getting slowly out? I am going to check it out today, but i am almost sure that i am going to fill it again. What could it be ? I never had such a problem until i changed the radiator.

You made this thread too soon. come back when you actually have a problem. If it wont fill back up you have a leak and from there you need to presure test the system and start narrowing things down one by one.

Does the coolant level take long until it stabilizes?

Took me about 2.5 litres more of water in the system until it was full. I also have a Fluidyne for the record.

You just had an air bubble in it that you didn't get out. Alot of how much you have to add the next day depends on how well you burp the system at the throttle body.

Hi Guys! I refilled again today but i noticed that the small hose going from the AST to the plastic tank was leaking at the very tip(i.e from the AST). I've put a clip to fasten things now. Did i do good cause its the only hose without one. Anyone knows why please?

get an aluminum ast if you don't already have one. You really have to burp it real good and also get the "No spill funnel". I got one from MatcoTools and it's really good and lots of people get real good results. I work at a dealership so when we change out the coolant we use the funnel to burp it out. Pressure test it if you can't find visible leaks. good luck

Thanks John! All ok now. The problem was that by time the hose coming out the ast (the one at the top) got a bit loose and was getting out.

Best to not even use an AST. Get the elimiation kit.

If the connection from the AST to the recovery tank isn't sealed it will draw back air instead of coolant and you'll never get all the air out of your system, it will just keep putting air back int to it.

Thanks Cantgostraight! I gues its better if i get a new hose and an alluminium AST too.
