loud squeeking noise?
When I crank my car there is a loud squeeking noise, that will go away once I hit the throttle a little. It is worse the longer the car sits between drives. Has anyone else had this problem? Is my belt to tight? Are the pulleys worn, or need to be oiled, or what?
thanks. |
my friend's air pump pulley went dead and it made a very loud squeeking sound. i disconnected plug the air pump for him and its fine now, (do this if u don't have a cat, or just to test to see if the air pump pulley is dead). Just try it out.

sorry, i meant to say disconnect the air pump plug.

The air pump has already been removed. What about the tension pulley for the belt that drives the a/c and pwr steering?

My guess is that your belt is wore. It is slipping on start up as it is trying to drive the accessories. Tapping the throttle gets everything up to speed. Does it sound like a belt squeel?? Tom

I just replaced the belt. Maybe it isn't tight enough? I think I have tight though. I don't have a belt tensioner gauge.

Ohhhh...... Well if the noise was not there before putting on the belt...... then I would surely look at the belt tension. Tom

The noise was there with the last belt as well. Someone told me it was the belt, so I replaced it, but that didn't fix the problem
