loss of power

I'm just curious... This is a really 'new' guy question, but I can't find an answer.

Is it possible, through wheel hop, to damage the power to your rear wheels? I don't mean break and I fully understand that your car can become undriveable from problems resulting from wheel hop.

What I mean is it possible to gradually lessen the HP to your rear wheels and the torque? If so - how would I be able to tell, aside from the general power loss.

bump* any thoughts? :\

Perhaps I phrased this really poorly .. I basically just mean is it possible to see a gradual loss of performance due to problems related ONLY to wheel hop

the actual deivetrain parts that are effected by the wheel hop will not affect the power output of the motor....but they will affect the power's abillity to reach the ground......you should not see any gradual powerloss from wheel hop...but you may prematurely kill your drivetrain....so yea...continuous wheel hop will degregate the overall performance of the car......

agreed.

I agree too.

Well, I probably wheel hopped about a total of 15 short bursts (1st gear) before I realized what it was... Do you think this could have damaged the power I'm feeling at the rear wheels? If so what steps should I take to investigate and potentially correct this problem.

Also I have a little confusion in reading your post:

"you should not see any gradual powerloss from wheel hop...but you may prematurely kill your drivetrain....so yea...continuous wheel hop will degregate the overall performance of the car......"

You say that that there's no gradual loss, but that my overall performance will be degraded by frquent wheel hop. What I'm not confused about is that wheel hop DOES damage my car. I know this. What I AM confused about is how does it damage it over time? To me it just seems like I'd either be breaking something or not breaking it. Am I "wearing down" parts of the car that are key to performance through wheel hop? Breaking a few parts I understand would result in an undriveable car. Breaking others would result in?

I'm back on the road now so this is the next problem I guess I'm adressing.

If anyone could shed any more light on the topic it would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks for the response thus far.
