losing coolant. AST?

hey, lately my car has started to use coolant, nor much but noticably more than before,
there is absolutely no white smoke, either at cold start or at woot, it doeant small like coolant, so im not burning it, i havent seen any wet spots under my car either,
but when i stop the car it heatsoks an starts to make the boiling sound, today i found out that the sound comes from the ast, could i be losing a little coolant from there? (i have the stock one, im stupid i know:))
the ast was really hissing and bubling

Are you losing coolant from the over flow tank after shut down?

The boiling sound is air in your system I believe. That used to happen to me and it wasn't until I burped the system several times that the boiling sound went away.

1) you could have a pin size leak somewhere in your system.
2) One of your coolant caps may not be sealing properly.

First off try replacing both coolant caps. Get them OEM the parts store one are a hit an miss IMO.

P.S. The OEM AST is perfectly fine as long as it is black.

hehe, my ast is green.
it seems like its hissing through the ast cap, so i should replase them?

Montego 06-19-06 07:24 PM

fuck yeah you should replace them. the caps and the AST.

a green AST = it's gonna crack sooner than later.

thanks, ive known that since i bought my fd, but i cant just buy one around the corner (same with the caps) i have to order from either japan or usa(and performance parts are much more fun than reliabilitymods;) )
but i gues im gonna order the RE amemiya ast from japan +caps

mines make the same boiling sound. i just thought it was normal and i never noticed it before . and rcently the car overheated and sprayed coolant out of the filler neck cap. and was smoking from the overflow tank only. i really didnt trusst the gauge cause the coolant light is constantly on. and it went into red and i turned on the defrosters and the gauge went to middle. then when i parked it it started smoking. it only started smoking when i turned the car off. im confused as what is going on with my car i could use some help. i suck at keeping a rx7 running:( i should put my fd in storage and start learning on a fb and work my way up :squint: im not really ready for a fd. way to much matinence. it worse than all my dads ferraris put together. :wtf: and they leak oil constantly, if it doesnt leak its not a ferrari :tonque:

i still cant figure out were to burp the system cause i cant access the radiator without taking the bumper off and other stuff it looks like. if there is a easy access place please tell me. and i was wonderinng is it the coolant that turns the ast green? i cant remember what color mine was. i think it wasnt completly green but was a slight shade. but i can still see it real color wass black cause only parts of it are green.
