Limp Mode

Hi,

I have just unflooded my engine and now it seems that my car is in limp mode from what i've read in other forums.

Does that sound likely?

I lose power if i give it too much punch and the car just seems to cut out and on and out and on, it doesn't stall though.

I've also read that to get the car out of limp mode i should reset the ECU by disconnecting the negative connector to my battery and holding down the brake for 20 seconds. Will this affect any of the current ECU settings?

apologies if i sound like a complete idiot, I've only had my RX-7 for a week

If you had to unflood the car you might want to also change your spark plugs.
Also that is the correct way to clear the ECU.

It sounds like limp mode. What method did you use to unflood the engine? If you unhooked anything, that is probably what put the car into limp mode. You can check for engine codes to find out what is going on. As far as resetting the ECU - it will reset your trip odometer, but there isn't anything else to be concerned about. I vaguely remember reading somewhere that you should let the car idle for a few minutes when you start it for the first time after resetting the ECU, so that it can re-adjust everything.

Thanks for the replies.

To unflood the engine I took the spark plugs out and gave them a clean to get rid of the excess oil then removed the fuse for the fuel pump and cranked the engine with the accelerator pressed down.

After that she fired right up. Am guessing the removing the fuse caused it to go into limp mode?

Will have a go at reseting the ECU in the morning and hopefully i'll get full boost out of her.

Thanks again!

Yup...pulling the fuse is what did it. I know from experience... :)
Reset and you'll be shitting in the high cotton again.
