light bulbs

just to clarify before i go buying stuff.... is it correct that out headlights are H4, and the fog lights are H3??? also, would anyone know the bulb size of the 99 fog lights? thank you. -heath

RotorMotor 04-17-04 05:16 AM

oh come on..... someone must know this! i dont want to go out to the garage and tear apart the lights to find out....

skunks 04-17-04 06:40 AM

head lights are H4, dont know about the rest

also, what bulbs you planning on buying?

RX-187 04-17-04 12:42 PM

yep h3 for fogs. I am planning on getting some too. Tell me which one you get and how good they are.

apneablue 04-17-04 12:54 PM

Sweet.....why sweet? I had an R6 and bought some bulbs that were halogen blue/green...I just looked and they are H4...frigging things cost me bout $76 or something like that.

edit: sold the R6 but still have the bulbs so will see how they look in the 7.

piaa's will run about 100 dollars for a pair while M-tec's cost about 35-45 bucks a pair (mtecs being a lot brigther). i have never been able to track down a pair of gigalux/razo type bulbs but these are suppose to be even better then mtec as far as light color goes althoguh i still think mtec has a higher wattage. Nothing will come close to HID sadly but the good thing is cost of hid's have gone down and now they are obtainable for 300 dollars now adays. check ebay

RotorMotor 04-17-04 07:46 PM

yeah i was going to run piaa's all around. i have a set on my miata which are pretty good (although they do make a higher wattage bulb for the H4's... i think 85 watts vs 55? i cant remember exactly). there are a BUNCH of colors to choose from. the only color i have experience w/ is platinum white (i think thats the name)... its not as BLUE as some of the others, its more of a pure white color. i wonder if there is a comparison test of piaa bulb colors on the net somewhere? when the light gets too blue its makes your car VERY RICE!!! so beware of which bulb you pick. ive had good luck with piaa and think ill stick with them for the FD headlights and fogs.

***PS if i have some time later tonight ill take some pics of the piaas in my miata and find out what color those bulbs really are. if anyone else has any upgraded headlight pictures please post them so we can get some comparisons going. post pics of HID's, piaas, and any other brand that you dig so we all can take a gander  ***

also, anyone have experience with the higher wattage bulbs? will they kill our wiring? i wonder if you have to change the fuse, or upgrade the wires? later, heath

Im wondering the same thing. When using higher wattage bulbs (100/120w bulbs), how would someone go about upgrading the wiring, or adding to it in parallel, to withstand the higher current draw? Is there a page that talks about this procedure for the FD? I've searched but the results are all about sleek headlight conversions.

wire the wires in parallel is an easy and good way to do it then you can run the hiugher wattage bulbs easyer.. id recomend it

So did anyone ever find out the number for the 99 spec turn signals? I want to put something like a Sylverstar in them...the piss yellow looks gross and would look retarded if I put nice white one's in the halogens.

I'd like to know this as well. Also, look into the silvania silverstars for the headlight bulbs guys, you won't be disappointed.

99 Spec bulbs are simple W5W. I've put an LED array bulb in there and it looks better than yellow, but is a bit too blue for my taste (don't want to look like a teenager with a civic).

Philips makes a "Blue Vision" W5W bulb, but no one here in the states seems to sell it, and I haven't been brave enough to try them myself (the "Blue" part scares me). Here's a link to a British site that sells them: http://www.powerbulbs.com/products/p...=pbvs&type=W5W

Check this link for some info on the LEDs I experimented with: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...&highlight=led
