Leaking Antifreeze, a Big Problem?
 

Well, after a long drive today, I found some antifreeze (green liquid) leaking on the right corner (close to the corner) under the front end. It was leaking drop by drop. Actually it wasn't leaking a lot, but it was very noticeable. Now it seems like it's stopped. I'm not sure if there's a small hole under there, but I'm sure there's a small spot that was leaking. Any suggestions? Oh by the way, the car doesn't run hot and the temp is pretty stable.

The radiator has got 140k miles, could that be the problem?

I'm sure you know that it will only get worse and it may be costly . Get one of those mirrors on a rod and look around in there. See any white residue trails?

Might be a seeping endtank on the radiator.

I looked under and found a black area around the leaking spot. Maybe there's some seeping?

Are you talking about on the radiator? You might be able to get it pressure tested (specifcally the radiator) with it still in the car. Some stuff would have to be removed for access. I f you have a stock this sounds like an excuse to get a Fluidyne radiator. It is cheaper and better than the stock.

is it coming from the coolant overflow/expansion tank?
 

If it is coming from the extreme right corner (under the headlight) it could be coming from the coolant overflow/expansion tank. Usually happens after a hard drive, since the coolant is the hottest (and expands the most).

Check the dipstick on the overflow tank - if the coolant is way above the F mark then its most likely overflowing out of the tank. Siphon out the coolant until its down to the F line again, and you'll be okay.

Then again, its time to think about why the coolant is overflowing out there. Did you overfill the expansion tank? Or is it the coolant seals going? Check your AST and coolant fill neck to see if there's still coolant in there.

Yeah, it's coming from under the right headlight. And two weeks ago when I checked it, it was at full, if not over it. I hope it was just overflowing or the coolant got hot and it expanded.

Just make sure it is not a hose before you drive any long distances. I had my upper radiator hose bust on me 30 minutes from home. Didn't damage my engine but I could have if I wasn't paying attention. It sure is interesting doing work on your car while it is on the side of the road. :rolleyes:
