Leading coils questions
 

So ever since I got this car I have been trying to figure out a way to replace the leading coils on this car. But I havent had any success becasue I cant open up the stock leadign coil to figure out how it works and sends its spark. Obviously you can't just go and run two aftermarket coils off the one connector to the stock coils. So if anyone has any insite I woudl love to hear it. I've alos looked at the wiring diagrams and they didnt tell me much, so...any insite woudl be great. Till then though I guess I'll be beating away at the coil and cutting it open o see what sin it.

Leading coil (singular). I don't get what your asking here? Are you asking what is exactly inside the leading coil? To replace it you just get another one, revmove 4 8mm nuts, put both spark plugs back on it, and put the connector back on it. They are a sealed unit that is non-serviceable. You can replace it with a msd-8204 (i think thats the right number) or summit makes a fairly inexpensive twin post coil to replace it. Stock leading coils are very plentiful here on the forums if you're looking to find a replacement. Good luck!

No i was wondering if I could use 2 after market single post coils instead of the stock dual post coils. I wanted to knwo how the coil worket internally, and how it sent the spark to the rear and front leading plugs. I was unsuccessful at finding dual post coils when I was looking hence why I asked.

There are guys making over 500 rwhp with a stock leading coil. Why exactly do you want to replace it?

Oh I know that I even switched over to the TII Coil much liek you did a while back. I think its more for peace of mind of for me personally. We all knwo the stock FD coil was very prone to just melting with an IGN amp liek an MSD or mallory. Supposidly the TII werent btu..eeehhh so far my stock FD coils went south a whiel back and the TI ones I think the ones I got were already on their way out. Since stock Mazda ones are so damn expensive I figured switchin over to after market ones with a bit more power would be a better call. That and they cost less and woudl give me more optiosn for power later on and woudl probably smoothen out my top end.

Do they really? So there is no internal switch to have alternating fire? In other words I could just run 2 coils off one signal ? That seesm kind of odd seeing a show the the rotars dont spin simultaniously at the exact same timing....

Yes they fire at the same time.....its called a wasted spark set-up and is actually fairly common among many applications it works because the non used spark or "wasted spark" is fired while the unused rotor is off sequence of the used rotor so the plug is fired while ther is no charge in the combustion chamber.....the reason the trailings are not wasted is because the sequencing would have been to tight between the front and rear.

Wow....I'm glad someone has finally explianed it to me. So why dont people just run 4 after market coils around here? Seems it would be a lot better and cheaper then buying stock mazda ones?
