Leading coil replaced, still nothing!

So today I replaced my leading ignition coil, did an oil change and plugs. But, of course with my shitty ass luck this did not fix my ignition problem. Now, here is my story and my symptoms for those of you who are unfamiliar with my prior posts: my car seemingly comes out of the hole quite strong but seems to loose power as im approaching higher RPM's. My boost pattern is stable and I do not loose any boost while putting the car under load, I can tip-in and build boost but the car just does not pull. Now, my transition is very smooth and the car pulls like gangbusters my problem seems to only be while on the primary turbo. And the turbo's are solid, they are new 99 efini's that I installed after my motor rebuild. Now I will give you my list of mods: new motor rebuilt by Pineapple Racing with stage 2 oil mods, new housings, rotors, seals, and everything cryo-treated. Also, I have new oil injectors and lines, sent my fuel injectors to Marren Fuel injection(new pental caps, and o-rings), 99 efini turbo's, M2 ecu, M2 downpipe, Random cat, Greddy power-extreme exhaust, fluidyne radiator, 20b fuel pump, ACT 9.5 lb. flywheel, RPS carbon-carbon clutch, C's short shifter, Pettit cold air intake w/k&n filters, Magnecore 10mm. wires, NGK 8&9 plugs, Greddy type-s BOV, turbo timer, Hose Techniques silicone lines, Greddy pullies w/no airpump, polished intake pipes, and probably a few others but these are the ones you should know. Now, I know that my problem is ignition but I cannot seem to fix the car. Now I will tell you everything that I have done while troubleshooting. I have replaced the plugs endless times using different recommended gaps, replaced the plug wires 3 times, replaced the trailing coil, the leading coil (today), replaced the air temp. sensor, coolant temp. sensor, crankshaft postion sensor, boost sensor, basically all sensors have been replaced. I have tested the battery, alternator, starter, and replaced the coil harness itslef. I also have replaced the igniter, checked the fuel volume and capacity, but to no evail have not solved the problem. Cam at Pettit found the problem with the faulty coil harness, and that got the car to come out of the hole stronger like it does now, but I was too excited that we had fixed the car to realize that it was still falling on its face under boost. Anyways, my fingers hurt now and im sorry for the long post but im sooo frustrated right now I have been troubleshooting this problem since July when I installed everything along with the new motor. And I think im just gonna drive it off a bridge now, or go gown the road and buy this beautiful Infiniti G35 coupe....

wow you have been through a war...

here are a few more things to do.

swap another ecu in and go for a drive. your car could be hog rich at top end.

swap the random cat for anything else if you have not verified that it is not plugged.

replace the air filter.

good luck and keep us posted.

Hold on a minue there Sparky. You have all of these mods and no ignition amplifier of some kind? Try the HKS system. I have one and it is the best $350 ever spent. Jason's website is the place to go. And even with all that upgrade, why didn't you go single?

scotty305 04-19-05 08:34 PM

I'm assuming you've double-checked or replaced all the wiring that's related to the ignition system, including the wires going to the coils. You might want to try the "ignition wiring harness improvement" suggested at Steve Ciriani's site: http://fd3s.net/ignition.html#HAR

Yes, I did have a Jacobs Rotary Pro-Pak ignition amp and I actually removed it during troubleshooting the car it had no affect whatsoever. Yes, I have double checked the wiring dealing with the ignition, and I did replace the coil harness. If that answers your questions...I have not gone single because I have just rebuilt the motor and installed the new turbos along with all these mods.

Just a suggestion, use paragraphs next time, its easier to read.

I may not be the rotary expert, but this does not seem like an ignition problem to me. If you have a problem with the ignition, the fuel the car is supplying wont ignite. You didn't really state this in your post, but I assume your car isn't showing signs of running rich.

An ignition problem would have symptoms of fouling plugs or bad ignition coil which is the car running very rich at idle, oscillating idle, car running very unstable, and backfiring from the exhaust. Therefore, your car will probably not run very well at idle and may run better when accelerating (because the car is boosting).

I also understand that you have looked in numerous places as to the source of the problem, but I dont think its ignition. Just my .02 dinars ;)

Actually, the car idles great, has not fouled a plug yet, and does not backfire harly any. Any other suggestions POS7?

DVSseven 04-19-05 09:39 PM

And yes I have swapped the ecu out a couple of times...

What does "falls flat" mean? Are you actually misfiring?

Do you have a fat spark? Are the coils getting power and ground? I assume Petitt would have put a spark tester on it.

If you have two new trailing coils and a new leading coil, a new harness, new plug wires and new 9s, & a new igniter, you are done in the parts department. If the coil has primary power and ground, it's got to be the tuning.

If you know somebody with a scope, or a good shop that has a scope, that might be your best bet. I used a Fluke 98 recently and it was pretty cool.

Put a clamp on each plug wire & the scope traces out the firing KV, the spark KV, spark duration and the slope of the spark line can tell you something about what is going on in the combusiton chamber.

With all those new parts, I doubt the ignition pieces are the problem. Have you checked the fuel pump or pressure in the rails?

anyone else have any input?
