lack of communication
 

my car is currently down for a new motor....well i guess the shop started on it wed. and found that it also needed a clutch. they call up my dad tell him about it so they replace it with a $500 factory clutch when i could of gotten an aftermarket street/strip for less. by the time i find out about it they have already installed the factory clutch....DAMN IT! i guess its no big deal....it would of just been a chance to upgrade my car a little more. i'm only 20 so i dont think the performance shop is takeing me very seriously but i'm the one fitting the bill. the check just happens to be in my dads name :) anyone know exactly how much hp the factory clutch holds? thanks

The factory clutch can handle what you have on your car. Besides, unless you're into motorsports the increased pedal effort from a heavy duty clutch gets pretty fatiguing. I know because I have an M2 heavy duty (basically an ACT) clutch pack with 33% more clamping force along with a heavy duty clutch disc. The heavy duty clutch pressure plate contributed to my broken clutch fork, because that clutch fork part was never designed for the heavier forces of the ACT pressure plate (FD clutch forks are aluminum). I have an 8.5-lb flywheel, and while it does free up horsepower for driving the rear wheels, and does help me heel-to-dowshift with faster throttle blips, the light flywheel does require more revs to get the car moving from a standstill. This also contributes to he decreased usable life of high performance clutchs. So don't worry about it. Enjoy the easy pedal effort, and long service life of the stock clutch.

You're okay the way you are...While I was rebuilding my Rex I had the clutch & flywheel replaced with ACT Street/Strip & 8.5# Flywheel. It does make a difference, but there is a little more lag from drop dead start. I assume that your flywheel did not need replacing........my clutch went out @ 114,000 miles so I replaced it & rebuilt the engine @ same time....it did save a few bucks.
