Kyb, Koni or any other shocks?
 

Ok I Think I want to just replace the factory blown shocks in the rear for now vs buying coilovers.

Would swapping out the shocks w the springs be a pita?

also what shock would you recommend? To keep a factory type feel obviously at this time not going for super performance. I think kyb and Koni are the two popular brands? Generic shocks for now? I’m not sure the price differences vs quality.

Will probably get coilovers later anyway. So for now something to have a better driving experience

I have a low mileage set of OEM shocks with springs if you're interested. Doing what you're doing with the intent of undoing it later is a waste of time. Do what you're going to do since you're in the position to do it

I've always been a strut/spring kind of guy (I don't like to tinker with adjustability settings) but after pricing everything with new top hats, I went with a set of Tein Flex Z coilovers as the cheaper option. Rides smoother than my Koni Yellow/Eibach Pro Spring combo...

Yeah if you are getting something "for now" just get some good used shocks/springs that are OEM and bolt them in. Shouldn't be too pricey.

There is a WORLD of options on coil overs, do a lot of reading on that. Big thing is don't get the cheap-o Ebay stuff, you will regret that very shortly.

I would find a good low mile set of OEMs until you're ready to get coilovers. The job isn't too hard. If you want to get a little upgrade love for your trouble, through some Racing Beat lowering springs in on the round trip (I think they still make them). That combo w/ OEM shocks was my fave on the street.

Others may differ, but I had Konis, which I absolutely hated, and GABs and Tokikos at one point, and I wouldn't bother... same w/ Eibach Pro-Kit lowering springs.. Blech. Just do the above and save for some Ohlins from SBG or something

Are the Bilstein shocks sold same spec as the factory R1/2s?

The R1/R2 shocks were made by Showa. Later JDM-only versions had Bilsteins, we never got them in the US.

If the rears are clunking I read that it could be the rear pillow ball bushings? That it’s a common issue that causes the thunking? So my shocks might be ok..?
