Koyo radiator parts?

I've got a Koyo radiator, and have been trying without success to find someone who might stock them or other parts for them. (meaning radiator shop, not a parts dist. like Gotham or rx7store)

I was under the car Saturday and noticed a little coolant around the drain cock. I tightened it about 1/2 a turn, and the freaking POS plastic petcock broke on me! It was the outside part where you put the screwdriver that busted. I was able to get the rest of the screw portion of it out with some needle nose pliers.

But now I'm kinda screwed as I've been to 4 auto parts stores and 2 hardware stores trying to find a similar petcock that'll fit inside this damned radiator.

I'm awaiting a callback from Koyo right now, but has this happened to anybody else that might know the exact size of the thread, etc?

Thanks,

Cavell

Try the mazda dealer. They are the same as the stock radiator.

Cavell,

ask the guys at Gotham if they have an old radiator lying around...the plug is the same.

Happened to me when I was messing with the plug

www.radiator.com They also price match.

Thanks for the contacts guys. And for the info they're the same size.

I found one in a big parts bin at Pep Boys during lunch.

Now that I'll actually have coolant in the car, I can now focus my attention on why it's not getting enough fuel :D

You can even retap the hole to accept a more commom metal pipe type plug that you can pick up almost anywhere.

I might think of doing that. Considering the radiator is only a year and a half old and that plug snapped wayyy too easily.

But a big + for Koyo's customer service. I called them earlier this morning around 10 Central to see about the size, etc of the drain plug and a guy called back a few hours later with a list of some of their bigger distributors and phone #'s in my area.

A bigger + would have been, that it did not break after a year or so.:D

Anybody have the phone # for Koyo customer service (radiators)? Anyone know a parts shop in Orange county, CA (Laguna Hills) that stocks drain plugs for these radiators?

Thanks

Dave

Mine just broke tonight as well. I guess the plastic gets pretty brittle from the heat. Word of warning Koyo owners, go gentle with the plastic screw.

It's some time ago since I made this post about the drain plug so this may be a repeat of what has already been discussed in this thread. Anyway for completeness -

"GOOD NEWS! The Koyo radiator uses EXACTLY the same drain plug as the stock radiator, so just go dpwn to your local Mazda dealer, (or better still call the famous "Ray" at Malloy Mazda) an get one (or 2 and you have a spare - the price doesn't break the bank and the shipping charge for 1 is the same as for 2) and you're back in business, with cooling and all!!"

Good luck

Dave

Ref more recent post from proz07, the stock part is all plastic and easy to break, so go gentle on the screwdriver!

I did see your older post in another thread. Fortunately I still had my old stock radiator out in the shed so I grabbed the drain plug from that. Thanks for the head's up ;)
