Koyo radiator and Greddy SMIC - fitment issue
 

Just installed these parts and having some fit issues. Due to the larger radiator core, with the stock fans, it's pushing the SMIC upwards where it doesn't really clear the hood. The smic is also at an angle that it's VERY close to the pulley.

I also have Pettit duct.

Did I do something wrong with the installation? Or I need to get thinner fans?

ive heard some people say you have to do some triming in order for it to fit right.
not sure what they trim though.

I have that some set up but with stock duct and don't have any problems.

joe1573 - so with the stock duct, it fits fine and smic is not sitting on top of the radiator fans?

Flipping the "L" brackets on the forward radiator mounts will get you a little room, but I had fitment issues with my PWR radiator when I tried to mount the Greddy SMIC (Koyo is slightly thicker than PWR). You'll probably have to grind a bit off the fan bracket assembly to gain the necessary clearance. You shouldn't be that close to the pulley, either; there should be a tab on the lower portion of the Greddy that is intended to bolt to the cross member, and you should be directly above that (I say "intend" because fitments are never exactly alike).

Might want to search also. I remember this happening before to others with a solution similar to what Kento posted. There might be some pics and stuff out there.

I remember when I had that setup way back when. Like Kento said, you have to flip those side rad brackets, and bolt them down pretty tightly (radiator core practically touching AC condensor). The bracket on the bottom of the IC core gives you a pretty good basis of whether or not it's far enough down. I remember it being trial and error. At some point you'll get everything in the right position.

I just installed my Koyo a couple weeks ago - it definetly required some special attention. My car has the stock IC, stock air box and stock battery tray. I had to trim some plastic behind the bumper on the passenger side (black plastic - not the fiberglass rebar), I had to make a couple plastic spacers for between the IC brackets and frame/crossmember. I also had to clearance parts of the fan shroud and finally I had to remove the snorkle/inlet on the front of the airbox.

It was a tight fit with all the stock components but it's worth it to have rock solid temps now.

I just remembered something that helped my install a lot. The two brackets that hold the stock radiator at the bottom on the swaybar mounts are round to accomadate the round endtanks on the radiator. Since the tanks on the Koyo are square, I bent the flaps so the Koyo's pegs would sit flush in the brackets. It freed up a lot space and helped the install a lot.

I don't have any problems with the fans, no rubbing at all. the stock duct is not the best fit to the inter cooler.

- as people have said - you need to flip the upper mounting brackets to drop the radiator.

- you need to bend the lower mounting brackets, again to drop the radiator.

- put some spacers with longer bolts to mount the AC condenser lower so that it can clear the koyo.

Thanks for all the help...I'll try to work on it this weekend and see if i can drop the radiator more.

ok, radiator dropped per wrankin's advise...everything cleared! But it was PITA though...lots of bending and cursing!
