Koyo and PFS IC fitment problem...
 
I just got the PFC IC and have some problems with the fitment of the duct. I had my Koyo installed about 6months back by mazda service so I dont know if they had to modify anything to get the duct and IC (stock) fit back. However, I just pulled out stock IC, ducting and battery with battery tray and filters, and while trying a test fit, the duct doesnt seem to go low enough in front of the radiator. When I put in the PFS IC, the lower part of the duct is preventing IC to fit properly.

I read there are some brackets that I can reverse ? Can I do it without removing the radiator ? Any pics of the brackets ? Any other suggestions ?

I've never heard of fitment problems with the PFS IC. How thick is the koyo radiator? There are mounting tabs on the bottom of the radiator that the radiator slides into to hold it. You can bend those a little further and maybe free up a little room. The tops might be able to be lowered as well, but I can't remember for sure since I did my radiator switch a few years ago.

Just reversed the upper mounting brackets, just to find out that they were already reversed, lol. Koyo is thick, thicker then Fluidyne.

On the lower side of the radiator mounts (where rubber inserts are) I have a CWW swaybar mounts, which also hold the tabs for the radiator to sit on, I cant bend that material.

I thought this would be a 3-4hrs job, but now I dont even know if I can get it to fit :(

Got it together somehow. Fitment isnt as good as I would've hoped or as I expected. Another problem is getting RX7.com AST to fit inbetween PFS IC pipes. Currently I used a zip-tie, and may fabricate a bracket later if need be. Just when I hoped I will finish it before night, a return line to overflow tank got disconnected as I pulled on AST too much, and the connection is right under the already installed IC... ARGH!! I called it a day and will hopefully finish the install tomorrow.

I had to cut the ducting on some places, I also had to cut the fans housing on the upper leg to make it fit.

I'm no mechanic and my tools are limited. Someone else could probably finish the install sooner :p:

I'll have to see if I will do anything about the small gap between the top of the IC and the duct...

I'm in the same dilema... Mine was a very tight fit between the top of the rad and frame.
there are some wiring harness underneath it. I'm changing my setup to a FMIC because I don't like the way PFS SMIC fits with this KOYO rad. specailly when you rev the engine. Basically the ducting has no room to move with the engine...

Cruiser...a couple of ideas

1) with the duct, as long as the duct itself can fit right, you might wanna try this. The duct and the IC don't have to be bolted to one another, and thus they don't have to be aligned 100%. If you put some type of flexible plastic weatherstripping?? (i dunno wut else to call it) which I think I've seen others use on maybe M2 or even CrookedWillow ICs i believe, you can actually have the IC sit in it's proper location, and the duct sit higher, connected by the weatherstripping to the IC. The air will still flow into the IC.

2) as for the AST, it's not supposed to bolt directly onto the bracket in between the endpipes (at least it certainly doesn't look like that). My PFS IC came w/ this little bracket that's bent say..about 60 degrees or so. One side bolts up to the hole on the IC, and the other to the hole on the AST. That way you can bolt up the AST to the IC (although not directly), without pulling the lines like crazy or kinking them.

I'd get you some pics now if I could...but havin a lil trouble w/ the camera. Hope this helps (and makes some sense lol)

Hang the AST off of the cold side pipe using a clamp. Mine has been set up that way for over a year now with zero problems.

Rynberg, any pros/cons to your setup or having it between the endpipes? Or is it just easier/convenience?

Rynberg, same clamp that is used on couplers ? Got any pics of it ? I cant imagine it. Clamp is only a clamp... did you use some special bracket or zip-tie to hold the AST on the clamp ?
