knocking???

well for some reason my engine has started to knock lately. somewhere around the 4k rpm mark. i even changed the plugs to see if it helped but no luck.

could a week fuel pump be the culprit?

oh and the noise is pretty loud cluttering. ive herd knock on hondas, this is 3 times louder.

when is the last time you changed your fuel filter? What mods do you have?

Mahjik Jan 21, 2008 06:52 PM

If it really is "knock", your engine is already toast. Try revving the engine in neutral to 4k and see if you hear the sound. You can do it with the hood up my moving the throttle assembly on the throttle body and listen for the area the sound is coming from...

ya, I was going to say I have always heard these motors cannot take even a little knock like a piston motor can. If this is knock then my guess is it would have already blown.

do you have a PFC? Go get it compression checked.

samad Jan 22, 2008 09:46 AM

the engine is completely stock...no moda as yet...its the 99 spec jdm 13b though. and i dont think the fuel filter has ever been changed!!

even with this knocking sound the cars pulls really hard...and its been happening for a week now...

i think boost spike might be an issue..although i have a cheap ass boost gauge and the needle vibrates alot...it reads 15 psi at times. i shouldnt have this spike since everything is stock???

MrNizzles Jan 22, 2008 10:02 AM

15 psi, completely stock, I think that's supposed to be somewhere around 10 psi... 15 is quite a bit higher and usually people have upgraded their ecu, injectors and ported their wastegate to keep the motor healthy at that level.

Get a good tune up at a rotory shop ( if you can find one ) and replace all the fluids and check the coolant pressure and get that compression test. Check for leaky injectors and maybe check that boost gauge too, might not really be 15 psi .. lets hope that it's not and maybe your motor just needs a tune up!

you should report back after you visit the rotary shop ... NOT THE DEALER!
