Knock sensor was disconnected...
Was running with the Knock Sensor disconnected for a few days but didn't know it. Engine light was on the whole time, but couldn't get a code other than 1 long flash?! Anyway, I know I must have pulled something accidentally when I change my plugs and wires....so I finally took everything apart again yesterday to see what it was and sure enough it was the connector for the Knock Sensor wire. Engine check gone! For some reason it wont snap tight, and had been pulled off.
Suprisingly runs much stronger now that it's connected...(I knew there was something wrong with the power while it was disconnected, but I was thinkin' it was just me) Why was it running with out full power...does it retard timing when its not connected? Thanks. |
it shouldn't retard the timing. I don't have mine connected right know and it runs fine.

I was thinking it shouldn't as well, but it's MUCH noticable. I wonder what it was? Anyway, who cares now I guess...as long as nothing is messed up.
By the way, why are you running no Knock Sensor...isn't that a bit dangerous. |

Originally posted by Mahjik The PFC doesn't use the Knock reading for anything (other than display). The stock ECU does retard the timing using the sensor, however not much. |
Originally posted by PandazRx-7 So if I run a PFC in the future...my knock sensor will be useless? Unless I get an aftermarket one like J&S right? If you want to retard the timing off the knock reading, then yes, the J&S would be what to add. |
Thanks Mahjik!

Does anyone have any idea why the PFC doesn't include some kind of ignition retard when it senses knock? Is there a big variation in the stock unit's readings?
