knock sensor?
Just ran the engine codes and I get 5 quick flashes then a pause, then 5 quick flashes then a pause. It repeats this until i turn it all off. Looked at the chart and It's saying knock sensor. I replaced the plugs/wires last night, where is this knock sensor? I might have knocked (no pun intended) loose. What exactly does it do for the car?

awesome. That would make sense since i redid the plugs and wires last night. Am I reading the engine code correctly?
|
It's on the front rotor housing above the trailing plug

Well its not the spark plugs. Plus I just talked to someone , I think the knock sensor is on the rear housing above the spark plug he said? No sure but you cant miss it, its a big black octagon shaped thing on the side of your motor with one small wire running to it. It could be shot but I dont know how to test that. Maybe theres a certain resistance your supposed to test it with. Remember also when you test it, you will be testing in abient temps and resistance increases as temperature increases. |
Connect a voltmeter to tne MEN terminal of the diagnosis connector.
jump the TEN and GND terminals. Turn the ignition switch on lighty tap the engine hanger with a hammer the voltmeter should move just a bit. |
Yeah, it's right above the plugs on the front rotor - kind of hard to see. Has one wire running to it.

Thanks for fixing it guys!

Well took a look at it. Only thing that looked a little odd was some oil around it and on the wire...I'm wondering if that caused it. I couldn't replace the sensor on my own...i don't know where the other end of the wire leads, i couldn't reach there without unhooking some shit so I didn't wanna bother. I think I'm taking the car to the shop here shortly cuz it's burnin oil...so i'll have him test/replace the sensor then. It's idling kinda funny now too tho....tach is jumpin up and down at idle or will sit at 1 grand. any ideas on that or do you think it's related to the knock sensor (since it affects your throttle)
|
If you have a vacuum leak, the idle will go up and you can get the surging idle.
I think you're near KD Rotary, BTW - they're a damn good shop. Dale |
KD is up in PA. There's a local guy around here that a lot of people recommend so i'm gonna hit him up hopefully on my next check....if my bonus is big enough :-D
|
Well my current problems are that check valve and the knock sensor (according to engine codes) think either one of those could be it? the idle thing just started happening last night after i tampered with the knock sensor a bit...
