Knock level and basic maintenance Qs
Rotorians,
I posted on the PowerFC forum but seems that no one is reading that part of the page :( I just installed my PFC with these mods : dp, mp, cat-back, fuel pump, efini y-pipe, crane ignition and pulleys. Currently I have the base map running since no tuners live less than 500 miles from Ames, IA. On the commander I saw a knock level peak of 73 after a "little bit" of hard run of boost 0.67 kg/cm2 (to be safe). My question is : is it a normal number of knock level with the PFC? Or does it mean that I really, really need a tuning on the PFC? Also I have another question on a very basic stuff. When you go to the dealership and change your oil, it seems that your steering wheel feel much firmer afterwards, what links/bolt do they tighten? Which part of the car needs lubrication regularly, aside from the engine of course?;) Sorry for the long post, thanks in advance... AndrewD |
The sharper steering is probably due to them putting air in your tires, how often do you check your tire pressure?
The knock level is not consistent from car-to-car. My mechanic has had cars that had knock values below 40 and were detonating. Also, when you shift or let off the throttle, the Commander will record those spikes. You need to see what the knock level under constant WOT is, not just a peak from driving around. From what I've seen from most of the tuners, they don't pay attention to the knock readings until they get over 80-100 under steady WOT. FWIW, my knock values vary considerably. One WOT run to redline in 3rd will peak at near 100 and another won't peak over 40-50. To me, that indicates that the 100 value is some extraneous engine noise that the microphone is picking up. |
