completely theoretical question, lets say i want to upgrade my twins, what can i get? i bet there is some other makes different then these in the title, r they better? how much power would i gain with upgrading my twins? and what else would need to be changed?

i was trying to find some info but it looks like everyone is going for single - didnt find even one thread about someone saying :"hey i got my knigsport twins installed and thats how much my baby's pushing on wheels...."

There are 2 choices: BNR stage 3, and the Efini twins. Unless you can get a great deal on the Efini twins, it is generally accepted that the BNR's are a better upgrade. Power gains will depend on supporting mods, and tuning, although you can bolt in both with no additional modifications as long as you keep stock boost levels.


Search BNR stage 3 for more info. Lots of members have run them both sequentially, and non-sequential with great results.

Bingo.. Im debating when my motor pops and i rebuild my twins.. if I will just go BNR's and run more boost, or keep stock twins and just port my motor? its one or the other and both will give me the same power goal i want.. hmm??

How many miles on the twins? If there are no issues with them, there is no reason to try and rebuild them. Not many have had good results going that route anyway. If the turbos are in good condition, I would lean towards porting as it's easier to replace/upgrade the turbos down the road, than to pull, port and rebuild the motor.

they have bout 40k on them and are in great shape. im figurin a year or so when it pops ill rebuild um.

There's a reason for this. Knighsports twins cost around $8,000 for the kit, which is more than double what a 500R kit costs. The KS kit could theoretically lay down some serious power, however it's a very old technology. They are extremely slow to spool and won't provide any more power than a 500R or GT42R kit.

As everyone else said, stick with the BNRs. They are slightly cheaper than the GT35R, make around the same power (unless you're really pushing the 35R, in which case you can squeeze an extra 30-50whp out of the 35R), and are cheaper than Eflini twins. Additionally, Efini twins don't nessecerilly make more power than the stock twins. No matter what year of OEM twins you go with, you're going to top out around 350-360whp unless you are very very fortunate (think one out of 60,000 in the past 16 years).

If these are the same turbos as the Knightsports RF420 Turbos, then they cost 298,000 Yen (93-98 Turbos, and 308,000 Yen for 99-02 Turbos) for the upgrade with the shipment of the core turbos + w/e shipping is. And they are currently performing this upgrade as well.

That comes out to 1399 UK Pounds (exchange rate of 213 Yen/1 Pound) + The Core Turbos + Shipping (w/e that is)

That would be $2838 USD + Shipping and handling (our exchange rate sucks anyway).

For the average US Customer the BNR's make more sense as it is easier to ship and deal with. But since the OP is in the UK, it would not matter, as shipping to the USA or Shipping to Japan might be equally expensive. The UK Pound i am sure is a lot stronger than our USD anyway.

Performance wise, I have heard from people that have used the Knightsports turbos that 400 horsepower has been achieved. I cannot speak from personal experience. I know people that have used the BNRs with great results as well. So financially, and performance wise, whichever is better for the original poster, that he should go with. I do not think either is a bad choice, since Knightsports has english speaking staff as well, and very easy to deal with.

$8000 where did you pull that figure from? extremely slow spool??

Looking at the specs in that picture above on the KS twins, I think you'd be better off with the BNRs (and I'm very familiar with the internal specs of them).

A friend sent his 99specs to Knightsports to have the conversion done I beleive he said around 3,000$, a little steep for me but he is commited to the twin setup.

Supposed be to round 400hp or ps I can't remember.
