Kirk Racing Roll Bar - Pics of Rear Mounts
 

Hey everyone,

I know that this has been covered quite a bit and I've been searching for about an hour on the forum. I can't find pics of the 4-pt Kirk Racing roll bar mounted in the back of the car. I need some close-up pics because when I test fit mine in the car, there are major gaps between the mounting plate and the body of the car. I don't have pics, but the driver's side on mine had about an inch gap to the top of the fender. Had a piece a 1" thick steel cut to the size of the mount as a spacer, drilled 4 holes through it and used some longer bolts to secure it.

So the 1" steel spacer you had cut to size AND geometry of the wheel well? Thanks, and if you could even take a pic with your phone, that would be cool...when you get a chance. You have been super helpful to me in the past and I appreciate your continued support of those who need it.

I didn't cut it to the shape of the wheel well, just the shape/size of the rollbar mount (rectangular shape). It's still flat like the rollbar mount itself. ;)

I actually just did this install last week... Those rear mounts were a bitch. Mine sit basically flat on the fender wells with the exception of the rear most inside hole. Those have a small gap but I was still able to utilize the bolts Kirk sent with the bar. My biggest advice on this one is to really look at the spacing of those rear supports and the clearance on the rear hatch dampers. When you finally get them in there is little to no clearance. I did also have to trim the plastic by the rear shock towers (not just the caps). I will go grab a few pics and post em for you.

Ok here are some pics. Another recommendation, once you start to place the underside plates, have your drill bit ready to finesse the hole a little so that a bolt may slide through that is not oriented perpendicular to it (plate will not be perfectly horizontal and the bolt needs to go in as close to vertical as possible).

I placed the drivers side rear brace on (without the psgr brace on) and lined it up as close to the rear hatch damper and as flat as possible and drilled one hole to hold it in place. I then placed the psgr side brace on, bolted the dr side down, closed the hatch (it will rub on the damper) and looking through the glass made note of where the brace was positioned. I then opened the hatch, pulled on the bar, marked and drilled one hole. I bolted it down and checked for hatch clearance again. Everything was good then I proceeded to drill the rest of the holes including those for the main hoop. - Hopefully that makes sense. This is just what worked for me and what took me a while to figure out.

I know the kirk bar is a good deal, but I really expected better fitment and would have thought they had figured out how to package the bar without it getting scratched to hell during shipment. Really if the rear support angles were slightly different it would make the install much simpler and give better clearance to the hatch. I also noticed in older pics on here the connection of the rear supports to the main hoop are different on my bar. Updated version maybe???

I do have one more question though, how did you use the flat plate that is supposed to sit on the other side of the wheel well? It's a flat plate, but the area where the plate needs to go is concave. Thanks again!

Also, to prove to you guys that I have tried mounting this and everything before, here's a pic. :-)

Mine really sits fairly flat against the fender well. But as I mentioned above you need to drill the holes slightly so that it allows the bolts to slide through with the plate angled and the bolts vertical.

It most likely won't lay completely flat, but that's not a problem. Just bolt it up.

The thing that worries me is the plate underneath (in the wheel well) won't be flat at all...I'll take a pic when I rig it up next week. :-)

Both of mine sit relatively flat against the fender well but at a slight angle in relation to the plate on the bottom of the bar itself.

No worries at all. Just glad I could help.. It really is a PITA install... A better design would make the install much easier.
