Keyless Entry
I did a few searches, and was surprised not to find anything about wiring in a new Mazda keyless entry control module (along with a DS actuator).
If I missed it, please point me in the right direction. Has anyone done this? Would it work, or is the control module computerized? (an '02 or '03 unit) -C |
umm my buddy sub-zero did a keyless set up on his fd pm him he might beable to tell you somethign

rotary hardcore... if you are just looking for the system itself, check out jt-imports.com
they have the system from the later generation FDs. |
or get rid of the crappy factory alarm, spend 350 bux and get a clifford RS matrix 2.5.
Has a 2 way pager system w/ the car so that when the alarm goes off, it pages the remote w/ details of why. Also knocks down insurance w/ some compaines. And thats 350 installed! best buy did mine and did a great job - watch out for them though - they did my head unit too and fucked it up - i had to re-do everything |
revsteve: how did they remove the stock alarm? I have mine set up with a clifford but I wasnt able to remove the stock alarm and it goes off sometimes when I unlock the car with the clifford. thanks for your help.

pugg57,
I like the OEM unit they're selling, but it's too much money. revsteve, Your post is funny becuase I actually have a Clifford alarm, it was installed before I bought the car. The windows roll up and down with the remote, there's a -lumi- scanner on the windshield, and a light on guage cluster; pretty cool stuff. Sadly though, due to reasons unknown, it drains the battery if the car isn't driven every day. So, it has been disonnected and I think I'm sticking to the stock alarm, who knows what it would take to get the clifford one working right. My main idea is to get a keyless system for around $50; simply because I know it can be done, and I'd like to keep everything as OEM as possible. I really do appreciate your info guys...if you can throw anything else at me, please do. -C |
Clifford Alarm

Sean I have no idea how they removed the factory alarm. All I know is that the guy spent like 7 hours with it trying to get it to work. Interestingly enough, I have never had a problem w/ my clifford. if you'd like, I can get you the name of the guy who did it and you can give him a call. PM me if you want me to do that. Rotary - mine doesnt roll up/down the windows or have a luminescent anything on the windshield. I know I have the 2004 2.5 Matrix model. the 3.5 has a built in turbo timer and remote start - sadly, remote start on a 5-spd is illegal in Maryland. :( 10k fine for the person, 50k fine for the shop. Just not worth it. |
I'd definitely like to have one...
But I'm so scared of electrical stuff...I've got a bad ground that's going in and out right now -C |
To eliminate stock alarm ... ground factory hood pin. That will keep the factory system from arming. Good luck.

Got the wiring diagram for a Protoge keyless control module...along with a module.
I guess we'll see how it goes when I get the module and go get some relays (good place to get them?) -C |
I've read a few posts about aftermarket actuators breaking lock cables (in fact I believe mine had a breakage due to that, although the actuator was not working when I got the car).
Could I remedy this by using a Mazda OEM actuator motor? -C |
Yes if you find one that will bolt in place. Icemark gave me a give hint a long time ago. Just attach the actuator rod to the plastic door lock and not the cable and you will never break the cable. He is correct .. never lost a cable since then.

Thanks for passing that along, makes sense though.
I've got a Mazda actuator, I haven't received it yet...but I think it's pretty small. This is gonna be fun, haha. -C |
I have a thread from 6 months ago. I installed an actuator and audiovox keyless entry. Its very simple. the hardest part is bending the metal wire to the exact position. It needs to be bent so the following 3 things all work:
1) the key unlocks the coor 2) you can manually open from the inside 3) the keyless entry locks/unlocks the door. It took a while to get it just right. Sometimes 1 & 2 worked but 3 didn't, other times 2 & 3 worked but # 1 didn't. |
I actually found that post today...great information in there:
