Just took the air pump out and messt up my idle! knead some info plss. ?

Can I just play with the idle screw to fix my idle or something ales that I shod do?

TainoIndian 03-24-02 02:46 PM

with stock cpu not possible...

to control the timing the idle adjustment wont work in that case becase you need to adjust fuel and air to smooth the idle only ways to do that are getting new after market ecu, get your reprogrammed, or to put air pump back...stock ecu is programmed with smog air pump not without it.......

if i am wrong someone tell me?

Hmmm. I didnt have any trouble with my idle when removing the air pump. Sounds like you might have somthing more going on.

That is a common problem. Some Fd's experience it, some don't. It's luck of the draw. Mine did it when I had my M2 ECU. I tried putting a resistor across the plug to trick the ECU into thinking it was still there, but that did'nt work. I turned the idle screw till it was about 1100 rpm and that seemed to help. Once I got the PFC all those headaches went away :)

Cool thanks 4 all you help .

One more thing .If the belt is to tight can it start squeaking at startup ?

cruser 03-24-02 06:33 PM

Squeaking???? If that is so you probably need a new belt. Mine had that problem. It was a little embarassing sitting in my car at a stoplight and having that thing just sit and squeal.

to_slow 03-24-02 06:39 PM

Both belts are brand new . So can it be on to tight ?

cruser 03-24-02 06:42 PM

Are they OEM belts. I had mine replaced with non OEM and they still squeaked. I then had them replaced with OEM and no more squeak.

cruser 03-24-02 06:43 PM

I also think it squeaks because it is not grabbing, i.e. too loose, and that squeal is the wheel spinning against the belt. Could be wrong on that one though.

Tomorow i will tight them up hope that works !

what size belt are you running without the airpump? i currently have a 3-rib 30" i am using temporarily, but id like a 5-rib for more contact.

i cant find a 5-rib 30" anywhere. i found a 4-rib 30.5" and a 5-rib 29", but one was too loose and one was too tight.

please post the part number, or at least the size and where you bought it.

After disconnecting the air pump is It normal 4 air to come from the pipe that connects to the cat . Because mine flows air out in the engine bay but I don't have a cat no more .So where is it coming from ?

rx7speed811 03-24-02 08:07 PM

4-rib 30"??? from where??? what is the brand/shop you bought/ordered it from? i would WAY rather have the 4-rib than my skinny 3-rib. i think the 3-rib slips a little when im first starting it up, i hear the squeal.

i think youre supposed to cap up both of the pipes in the engine bay, so that air doesnt flow through either way. but there are always mixed responses about this though.
