Just installed my Racing Beat dual-tip!

Hey all,

The install went very well. Cat-back installation is a piece of cake compared to that fuel filter!

I couldn't believe it when I started her up after finishing the install. What a difference! Considering that mufferless straight-pipe catback I had before, I almost couldn't hear the car at all from the driver's side! It's quieter now than either my T-Bird or my wife's Jeep. The sound is nice at idle too, too bad I couldn't take it out for a spin today because it was raining and snowing.

I think the car also looks much better than before, and now I'll never ever have to worry about annoying the neighbors again! Leaving for a Friday night cruise at 1 am? No problem!

This is with my M2 Downpipe and the stock cat. The last thing I'm doing to the exhaust is putting on a Bonez hi-flow cat after getting my PFC, and I'm pretty sure the noise level at idle won't increase much at all.

Awesome. I can't WAIT to hear her now at WOT.

One quick question to those who have these, it seems like the canister and tips dip very slightly on the right side, making the outside tip appear slightly lower than the inside one. Is this normal? I *think* the other pics I've seen of the RB duals look the same as mine, but not sure.

Thanks guys! RB makes one hell of an exhaust. Beautiful. Just beautiful.

mine is perfectly flush

have any pictures of the new exhaust?

There are pictures of it all over the forum. I don't think we need another thread full of them. :)

Congrats on your purchase and install Edward.

Thanks guys. :)

I think it might just be an illusion, seeing the unit slightly dipping to the passenger side. It's not just one tip though, it is the entire cannister as well. Hmmm, still looks fine, I think the entire car might just be on slightly uneven pavement in my garage since the passenger side is over a seam/crack/whatever between concrete sections.

About the pics, sorry, I need to get myself a digital camera. I think I must be violating a sacred rule of modding the -7- by not having means to take instantaneously postable pics! :p:

My tip hangs to the right side too:D

You have the option of slotting the R/B muffler bracket, that way it will bolted up higher. This worked well for me.

Nope. You need to reinstall the stock muffler bracket. If you don't have one, order one from Mazdaformance. I think they're like $10? FWIW, I have a full open exhaust. With motor in vacuum, it's not bad at all. With WOT, the exhaust sounds plain, angry!

The bracket is there. I bought a new bracket from my Mazda dealer for like 8 bucks, since when I bought the car it didn't have the stock exhaust.

Everything is lined up perfectly so if anything it might just be an illusion. It's just barely a difference of maybe an 1/8th of an inch, if at all, and I'm terribly picky.

I tried pushing up on just the right side to see if it would rotate at all but the entire unit moves up.

Thanks for the replies!

Okay, I found a pic in one of the other RB threads that pretty much looks the same as the way mine is sitting. If you look closely, it looks like the right tip is just a tad bit lower than the left one. Is this how they all sit? I'm off to find more pics for reference. :)

Here's a couple more, including a side view. Mine is sitting the same way, muffler and tips tilting ever-so-slightly to the right

I hope you guys don't mind that I'm posting your pics, if these are yours.

Mine tips a bit more than that. My problem is the downpipe to midpipe. I am a bit too lazy to start grinding.

EdwardNorth 03-08-04 08:41 AM

I'm guessing it varies from car to car. It looks like we all have all of the hardware installed, but like you said it may be related to what's going on further up the exhaust.

Here's one more that dips a bit more than mine. I'll quit posting the pics after this one, I promise. ;)

It really doesn't matter though, they all look great! I love my new RB catback, I just want to be sure I didn't screw up somewhere on the install.

I think its your eyes playin tricks. if you look at the bumper on the car it has a angle to it so it makes the exhaust look off. If you compare it to something more straight like the bottom line of the rear tail lights it looks straight. For the tips to match the angled black line on the bumper(part you probably focusing on) the can would have to sit on an angle also.

Find a flat surface to park on and lay a level across the tips, as long as the place you park is level, that should tell you how off it is. just an idea..

*edit* maybe put it across the underside... Doesn't look like theres much room on top..

SleepR1 03-08-04 09:49 AM

I think they look fine. Great-looking exhaust :)

maschinenpistole 03-08-04 10:00 AM

I had a RB Dual tip installed about two weeks ago and it also cants to the right, just like the picture of the white FD.

1QWIK7 11-23-04 03:44 PM

anyone got more pics of their RB duals on their fd?

plan9 11-23-04 04:24 PM

^^ or better yet, could someone post some sound clips? I'm always interested in hearing different exhausts!
