Just got my Pineapple streetport (long)

After several weeks of dreaming about my car, I finally got it back this Sunday from the RX-7 Store. Jason and Zavier did a great job installing a Pineapple streetport with stage 3 oil mods and loop line.

While the motor was out I got a ton of things polished, including LIM, UIM, TB, Y-pipe, filler neck, water pump housing, and alternator. As it turned out the alternator was either damaged by the guys who polished it or was dying to begin with, causing my battery to drain to 7 volts within the first hour of shutting the engine off. No big deal, I took it to a local alternator rebuild shop tuesday morning and had it back by early afternoon.

Other things I had done while the engine was out was vac. hoses, fuel pump, (1300s on the way), stainless steel braided lines for oil, etc, PFC, Fluidyne, and Evans coolant. For now I will be staying with the stock twins, however.

I only have about 300 miles on the motor as of today, but it is begging to be opened up. I can't wait to start running boost. Once it is broken in I will be throwing in the 1300cc injectors, hyperground kit, and possibly a Greddy FMIC with elbow and Type S b.o.v. before taking it back to the RX-7 Store to have it dyno tuned.

As for the streetport, I could not be happier. The idle is
smooth (for a port) at around 900rpms, and pulls about 13 in hg of vacuum at idle. The idle has the typically slight lop because of the port, but only fluctuates about +/- 30 rpms. Before I had the rebuild done I was very indecisive whether to get a small or large port. I decided to have Rob give it a "large" small streetport, if you will, and he says it is larger than a typical small streeport, but smaller than a typical large streetport. I guess you could say its a medium.

Anyway, just wanted to share my experiences with both Rob and Joel at Pineapple, and Jason and Zavier at the RX-7 Store. Rob and Joel treated me like a king, as I'm sure they treat every customer, and I could not thank them enough for their expertise and effort to answer all of my questions. Jason and Zavier did an excellent job also, and I will be going to them for all future mods and service.

Pics should be up soon, as well as a dyno sheet once it is tuned.

Yes Jason and Zavier are great guys. Everytime I go there I get nothing but good treatment and they always have what I'm looking for. I be doing the samething next year when I get back from the gulf, but I'm also getting a single turbo set up + everything you got. Was your car the red one with the body kit? I was digging it when I went to get the downpipe put in.

My car wasn't there on Monday if you refer to this past Monday (6/30). If you mean last Monday it was the black R1, stock rims, body, etc, and probably had the hood off.

pic of the loop line, please

my motor is with pineapple, i've been tossing around the idea of a loop line

I dont have any pics of the loop line - if you can find me a pic of an engine out of a car, from the drivers side (side the AC compressor mounts on) I can try to photoshop how the line looks/mounts. The loop line does require the AC compressor to be mounted out about 3/4in. to clear the loop line oil fitting for the front rotor. This is a very minor alteration, and well worth it in my opinion

How much did you spend on the engine and the installation?

RollnDrty 07-02-03 03:08 PM

engine (streetport, oil mods w/ loop line) = 3600
install = approx 1700 (this included vac hose job, etc)

would this pic work?

RollnDrty 07-05-03 07:34 PM

spurvo - the pic worked great

attached is what how the loop line looks, using MS paint (a little generic but u should get the idea)... the part of the pic lined in yellow needs to be cut away to clear the oil fitting. the red points out where the fitting plumbs into the block, and the blue would be the oil line running to a custom piece installed where the oil filter attaches. requires slight mod done where the a/c compressor mounts (the yellow line in the pic) and spacers to mount the a/c compressor out about 3/4 inch. also requires a 42 inch belt to compensate for the spacing. well worth it in my opinion, and highly recommended by rob at pineapple if you want to increase oil flow.

I think Zavier got some good pics of the motor with the loop line. I will have him post them Monday. Oil mods are a good upgrade, but are time consuming to install and cost about an extra $100 in parts for lines and fittings.
Cant wait to get that dyno tuned :)

I'm getting my streetported motor back form KDR on tuesday, and after reading your post, I can't wait! I have the "small" of the small streetports, just a little opening, but even still, I can't wait to get it back. Good luck with the car.
