Just got my FD running, few Q's.

yea so got my fd running today, woo woo. in a bit of a rush right now but figured id throw some random q's out there

1) should a brand new turbo on a brand new motor spool at idle? like should it be spinning? is it normal to stick at idle a bit when its brand new?

2)the odometer is finicky, the mileage and tripmeter work, but then turn off, but come on again, where should i be looking for the wires for that? the car was swapped from auto to manual, everything else works and when the odomoeter does turn on it works fine.

3)Driver's side harness, by the starter, theres a big ground strap where does this bolt too? i cant figure it out, it doesnt seem to effect the odometer (which was my first thought) but i figure i should get it grounded lol.

4) Passenger side harness has two main grounds near the back of the TB i put one to the trans (empty bolt hole on top of trans) and then one i put under the nut for the UIM...is this where they go or am I wrong?

help.. please.

Kevin, you should have called me :). Congrats on getting your 'IRP big azz port' motor running :D.

Re: the idle, what exactly is it doing? Might have a vacuum leak.

Re: the ground on the driver's side, that most likely goes to the block, near the bottom of the front iron.

Re: the other two grounds, one goes on the back of the UIM, on one of the two bolts holding the rear lift hook on.

Hey rich,

Yea didnt want to be calling people on easter sunday, just in case lol.

How big would yuo say these ports are BTW (for tuning purposes).

The motor is awesome, third crank and it started right up, smoked like a mother thought thanks to all the assembly lube and shit i guess lol. Fucking thing sounds awesome tho, i couldnt be happier. had a few minor leaks that were easy to find and fix.

The idle is rock steady at 950rpm right now, I have to fidgedt with a few things as its only on a very basic map at the moment and i dont have the IAC/ISC anymore so i have to change the PFC to see that and then play with the screws a bit, i'm the master of the perfect idle ive fixed tons of 7's with idle troubles lol its my specialty.

I'll look for the ground place again on the driver's but i couldnt seem to find it, i think where i have the other 2 grounds should be fine then.

I'll give you more ifno on how the motor's going son, only had time to get it running and mess with a few small things before i had to go to an easter thingy.

kevin.

edit: BTW i'm teknics/kevin on my friends computer.

Glad to hear it fired right up for ya :icon_tup:

I'm not surprised at all the smoking, they don't call Ihor the Lube King for nuthin' :ky: :D

The port is sized for your turbo, similar to what I run on my FD, bigger isn't always better anyway :)

We went pretty aggressive on the port. There is a point where I feel is comfortable for a street car and still retain good longivity. Like Rich said, we take several factors in mind such as the turbo you plan to run, and the kind of driving you do. Put a wideband on it. If you're interested I can set you up with Kahren. He has tuned many of our customer's cars with great results. The ground should be on the bottom of the motor just above the oil pan and next to the block coolant drain bolt.

yea Ive got my LM-1 getting ready to go on.

Forgot kahren tunes PFC's, good results? He ported my first t2's motor before half of it got lost lol. If hes really good ill have to contact him and get this baby tuned good.

i'll have to look again for where to put that ground it seems to be eluding me lol.

kevin.
