just got boost guage/a/f guage installed :D
 

thanks to coop i got my autometer guages from him and got them installed today. i've had a boost controller (profec b) on the FD since i bought it, but the funny thing is that it never had a boost guage, so i never could tell what was going on at all..so now that ive got the boost guage installed with the boost controller tuned the car runs a lot smoother as if its not cutting me from power. since its auto it runs at about 5psi in the first gear, and 9 psi every other gear at around 3000rpms...it was kind of fun driving home and all...
anyway here are my mods: hks carbon fiber exhaust, SS downpipe, hi flow cat, aluminum radiator, ast overflow tank, guages, a'pexi bov, a'pexi power intake and a stock ECU..
now my question is...is boosting 9psi too much with the mods i have and a stock ecu? should i boost less...CAN i boost more? thanks in advance...

Don't boost over 10, and you should be OK.

cool, thanks...i should be upgrading my ecu soon, so then im assuming it should be okay...boost at 9psi is already too much for me..its scary :eek:

yea, stock boost is the 10-8-10 pattern. Don't go over 10 and you're fine.

Oh, and don't pay too much attention to the A/F gauge, it's completely inaccurate, just there for the bling bling.

haha i knoticed...is there an accurate guage that i can go with? haha...oh well i got it for real cheap anyway

It's not the gauge that is in-accurate, it's the sensor. Do a search here on the forum for "wideband".

auto meter sells a guage to better tell a/f but its like 170

If the more expensivce autometer gauge still gets readings from the stock sensor wont it still tell if whether you are rich (closed loop) or rich-lean-rich-lean...(open loop)?

That's about all the narrow band type A/F gauges do. When you are cruising or idling then if will cycle back and forth since the ECU is in open loop, but once you go WOT if always shows lean since the ECU goes to closed loop. The problem with this is the gauge wont tell you how rich you are. IIRC in an FD a good A/F ratio at WOT, high RPM is 10.5 or 11. But with the cheap gauges it could be possible for the gauge to show full rich when you could possibly be at an A/F ratio of 12 or leaner.

Bottom line, an A/F gauge that only reads rich lean is almost useless as a tuning tool. By the time that thing tells you that you are running lean at WOT it's probably too late. Why spend $170 for a autometer A/F gauge, when you could spend an extra hundred and just get a techedge WB setup?
