Just bought a 93 touring-failed compression test-thinking of rebuilding
Just bought my first rx7 in August, had the car shipped home in early september. drove it for two days and noticed considerable power loss and leaking oil. I found a local guy who knows the car, he looked at it and found most of my vacum lines were fried and the car failed the compression test.(80-75) I have decided to replace almost everything. The engine is in the process of being taken out right now to be rebuilt and street ported. I plan to work on it all winter. Want to run a single turbo, thinking about the XS Engineering, any suggestions? I want to run at least 450 rwhp. I have been doing lots of research but want to avoid mistakes! Any advice would be appreciated.

My advice is to set your horsepower goal a bit lower. Spend some of the money (a lot) it would take to achieve 450 RWHP on suspension upgrades.
You will have a more complete package. If you have the money, ship it to a reliable tuner. You will likely save in the end. |
Well, list the mods that you think you need to make that hp level, and we can tell you what your missing, what you should re-consider, and what is completely wrong for your combo...
You need fuel, ecu, exhuast, intake, ic plus driveline stuff... |

I want to do everything at once if possible, I have 20K to spend on mods. Want to build the car to be streetable but also be able to take it to the track once in a while. Reliability is VERY IMPORTANT please list any suggestions, considering I want this much HP.
List of mods for this winter: Exhaust 3"down pipe, mid pipe, take out cat, no need in Canada-no emissions. cold air intake front mount IC Upgraded ECU-Halteck E6K pully set 9.5lb fly wheel-already upgraded clutch boost controller-Apexi AVC-R upgraded radiator 2nd oil cooler upgraded fuel pump injectors-1600 secondaries fuel pressure regulator digital boost gauge air seperator tank mod BOV turbo timer upgraded plugs/wires ignition-HKS short shifter kit suspension kit 4.33 gears I am looking for a large ball bearing turbo-possibly stainless steel-depending on price and quality difference. Thought of XS engineering? Engine is currently being taken out-street port-install 3mm Apex seals. |
450 rwhp != reliable.
At best, it will last a nice while, but "reliable" is not the word I would choose for that much whp. My car has 400 rwhp, and I'll be very happy if I can get 25K out of the motor. This is fine with me since I don't daily drive it, and most of the use it gets is flogging on the street or road course so it leads a hard life. Your mod list looks pretty good though. well if reliability is so important,
i agree that 450 is probly too high. maybe 400 with a single turbo setup would be ok. but i'd leave that at the max. you can really build a race car, and expect it to be a 100% reliable commuter give and take man, give and take |
True I did stress reliability is important but I could live with rebuilding tne motor every 25k since I can only drive the car 7 months out the year anyway. My biggest problem right now is which turbo kit to buy! Is it true ball bearing spool up faster?
