JIC Exhaust burning the bumper
 

I read some post .. of people using JIC Exhaust .. which burned or melt there rear bumper.. i was wondering does this really happens .. (for those jic magic exhaust users out there)

I've got the JIC Bullet Type 1...with a burn't bumper.

BUT I'm untuned .... running excessively rich AND run my decel high so that I blow flames at night....so I'm doing it on purpose.;)

Some will brun a bumper, all you have to do is trim it back some.

i'm using a JIC Spec90 with a cwest rear bumper...i've got a quarter size burn on the inside of bumper. the tip of the exhaust doesn't protrude enough from the bumper...actually doesn't pass the bumper at all.

or you can get a flame guard thing to protect your bumper.... flames are pretty.... :drool:

that they are, will flames melt ur bumper with any exaust or only certain types

ANY exhaust will melt ANY bumper...

If the exhaust is touching the bumper it will melt. 1000+°F WILL melt fiberglass/urethane(sp?)

Any exhaust burn any bumper.
Without a catalitic converter, bumper will get burning.
But while normal street diving, it doesn't burn so easily.
If you drive hard, your car rear bumper will get burning.

So, RE-A has produced a dolphine tail exhaust system.
It is used for a so many race cars.
They haven't.

What Inukai says is true. Also, if you're a welder, you can lengthen the exhaust by about 2" and it will fix it.

Here in Japan, exhaust can not protrude past the bumper.:(

mine is melting the plastic strip at the bottom of the bumper. this is with cat insalled! the exhaust just gets so hot and there really isn't a way around it.

Yes and even with a high flow cat included, it's still triple the cost and too expensive for us working folk :(

Or make a heat shield plate that mounts to the bumper....I saw one at HIN in Chicago in June

I'm not running any cats with the PFS exhaust and have no burns whatsoever. It's been on for nearly a year and still hasn't burned, or melted the bumper or plastic under-bumber-thingie.
My problem is that I don't really like the look as much as other exhausts. Soo if anyone wants a PFS exhaust, and wants to trade their canister/RB dual tip, then send me a PM. If not then I just won't look at my muffler too often. :)
Oh yeah, there was a thread a while back by the_glass_man with a video of his car shooting flames. He put an extension in his exhaust to make it poke out further, and thus, not burn stuff.

Mine melted the bumper. When I first had it I thought it was the new exhaust making a smell. Then found out my bumper was stuck to my exhaust. I trimmed the plastic and made an aluminum heat sheild and put rivits all around it. It looks really bad ass.
You can tell when you put it on it will lay on the bumper. I would trim it before you let it burn. It made a mark on my exhaust that I couldnt get out.

My rx7.com ( made by Trust/Greddy I believe) does the same thing... I made a spacer for the outboard hanger bracket and lowered it a 1/2" from the lower plastic trim piece. No more problems, however I do have a small area of melted plastic there from before I fixed it. I also noticed that because of the heat expansion properties of SS, it appears that when the exhaust heats up it is dimensionally lengthening a bit and pushing towards the rear of the car against the hangers. So much so that the hangers are angled some towards the rear rather than 90 degrees to the ground.
When cold the gap from the exhaust canister to the bumper plastic is larger. I bought this exhaust BTW from Qball:
