Jet hot coating or.... Something else?
 

My knightsport dual downpipe is jet hot coated. The rest of the exhaust is not. Frankly I don't care about the midpipe. But I also have the st mays dual cat back. That I care about. I want to prevent the pipes on the catback from detoriating over time. Rusting etc. it's difficult to replace.

Has anyone ever jet hot coated the pipe(s) before the canisters ? Obviously I wouldn't do the mufflers themselves. Is there a negative ? Does this coating offer this sort of protection or does it simply help by keeping heat in the pipe and less radiating ?

The exhaust is definitely deeper sounding than any fd exhaust I have heard. This sort of coating won't alter that correct?

Is there a better alternative to jet coating?

High temp paint is pretty good if all you want to do is prevent corrosion.
Theorhetically should be better for longevity by not insulating the heat in like ceramic coating would.
Also a lot cheaper!!

They could totally do those pipes, if you want to protect the pipes it's a good way to go. Jet-Hot is SUPER durable, I tried to take it off with a wire wheel on a bench grinder, it did NOTHING to the coating.

Spray paint type coatings won't last forever, they will discolor and chip over time.

Cerakote seems to have a lot of buzz right now and all positive response from what I've heard...

Now only does the stuff perform - it's also available in a number of colors. There's a couple guys with their engine bays done in it - not sure who has done their exhaust.

I did the Por-15 brush on gray manifold paint on my xs engineering manifold. I've only been running it since spring but so far it still looks good.

Im gonna say it again, but flame proof paint is pretty good stuff. I did my mild steel turbo manifold in it purley to prevent rust after agonising whether to get a thermal barrier coating proffesionally applied. In the end it seemed a ceramic coat to the inside of the manifold could damage turbine, and applied to the outside could cause undue heat stress to the steel.
Im very impressed witb the flame proof paint. Very durable, had all sortd of shit spilled on it scrape yet tjere are no stains or scratches. I sandblasted the piec before application. If you do that or just go over it with a disc sander prior and heat temper it properly you will have an end result that looks just like ceramic coating for the price if a soray can or two instead of hundreds.
