JDM Side Lights - markers or turn?

Are the Japanese market '99+ fender side "marker" lights wired as fixed markers or as turn signal lights?

chinaman 07-23-08 09:01 AM

They are signal lights. You can wire them so they stay on when not signaling or, come on only when signaling.

easy to wire either way but how do you wire as both. Don't you need diodes to stop backflow of current? Anybody have a wiring plan?

Where did you find your lights?

Julian 11-23-09 08:40 PM

front Combo's from MazdaMotorSport (F138-51-060B, (RHS); -070B, (LHS)); side lights are standard Mazda 3 (?) issue (B01W-51-120)

Thanks, I've always thought about the side markers.

How did you get a JDM in the states? I have a japanese spec here in Italy, and would like to take it back to the states when I return.

Julian 11-24-09 06:25 PM

Not a JDM car just some JDM parts on it.

speaking of the side marker... is there a stick-on version ?? just curious...

stubba 11-24-09 09:24 PM

the side marker lights from 99 spec fenders actually have the same part number as the Mazda Trbute

What year?

I considered installing these but came to the conclusion that IMO they ruin the flow of the FD lines.

No offense to those who run them but in this case I think less is more :)

cpnneeda 11-26-09 08:50 AM

I agree with the flow idea Rich, but I also like how they look along with the 99 spec bumper/body. Brings it together a bit to me.:dunno:

Julian 11-30-09 03:07 PM

The subject of this thread is wiring them up not whether people like them or not.

RLaoFD 11-30-09 04:17 PM

I would agree with you Rich, but I look at them as a good safety feature on new cars nowadays.

Julian 12-01-09 08:39 AM

not just a safty feature of new cars but with the '99 combo lights we lose all direct side lighting and the side reflectors of the USM models and as required for decades by US law. The JDM side markers still don't offer US legal reflectors but at least help.

I got a set of JDM side lights. instead of thrill holes and wiring, I'm thinking about convert that to side markers. is it a good idea? have anyone done so?
