also, just FYI, I am hunting down the Eunos Cosmo service manuals right now. Currently in the 20B section of this forum you can get half the manual (starting with section K, automatic trans) but all the engine stuff is missing. I found one in book format on a Japanese auction site that is currently in transit to my house. Hopefully it will have the missing sections. I was planning to get it made into a PDF and then have the ECU and AT-CU pinouts translated professionally.

I had found one on the Cosmo that the person took pictures of the entire book one page at a time. i dont remember seeing anything about the engine.

Found it

Very interesting - thanks for sharing!

For what it's worth, there *are not* the FSM, they're supplementary manuals that only cover what has changed from the previous model.

Which is why I am hunting down the real deal. I'm trying to help one of the guys in my tuning group who has a Cosmo and wants to install a Power FC with the stock automatic transmission controller, sort of like the Banzai Racing product but for a Cosmo 13B-RE. I'm hoping this one has the missing sections:

https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/251350298

should be at my house next week. Also, check your PM's.

FYI, the newest version of the Google Translate app for phones does Japanese translation. Point the phone's camera at the page and it will lay the English text on top of the Japanese text. It's not perfect but it does work well enough to figure out what's going on in many cases.

As I told Matthias, it can be done, just need all the pinouts.

It is going to be a mixture of our FD Auto adapter and the FC adapter parts. Cosmo uses an AFM and boost sensor similar to the S5 FC and sequential operation similar to the FD.

arghx 08-17-17 10:38 AM

yup, thanks for your help Chris. I had recommended he talk to you. I'm trying to get the pinouts now.

Banzai-Racing 08-17-17 11:21 AM

I have a full 13b-re engine harness and ECU, so determining what that portion of the pinout is simple, it is just the assumptions that need to be made on connector #1 and the dash harness connector, do not make it practical.

That's not the full FSM either, it's a supplementary manual.

arghx 08-18-17 12:19 PM

damn it. well, let's hope that it has the ECU pinout, though that seems unlikely now.

If you spot one online let me know. Or if you get a chance to call a dealership in Japan and see if any are still in print, let me know.

found a wiring diagram! https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/f228813669 Pricey but hey, it'll be worth it. Let's see if I win.

In the English language 94 FD manual, the main ECU pinout is in section B-1 of the wiring diagram supplement. So if I win this auction, we should be good for the pinout at least.

Here's a pin out for the ECU, also attached an excel file with information provided by Elliot at Turblown

arghx 08-18-17 04:49 PM

Thanks for posting those. I've seen the image shown. It's not fully complete unfortunately, and since it labels one pin as a VTEC signal it's hard to know exactly each pin. Like, is that actually the charge control solenoid?

Excel file looks like it's for wiring up a standalone (Haltech). Could be useful for swaps, but of limited value if you're dealing with the entire original Cosmo.

arghx 08-18-17 08:57 PM

I won the auction, so I should have the Cosmo wiring diagrams here in hopefully a couple weeks.

arghx 08-30-17 05:48 PM

It's here! I've got the whole Cosmo wiring diagram book. It's pretty cool, it came with fold out laminated diagrams of how the 80s/90s GPS system works. And yes there is a pinout of the ECU.

Unfortunately it's not a nice neat book of uniform sized pages. It's got all these fold out sections. But I managed to get the ECU pinout scanned. So now we have the full AT-CU Pinout and the ECU pinout as soon as I get it translated.

I will probably have to take it to a print shop with good equipment to get the rest of the stuff scanned. I just have a cheap scanner at home.

arghx 09-01-17 10:31 AM

Translation of pinout in progress. AT-CU is done, ECU is part way there. It's one combined pinout for the 13B-RE and the 20B.

This Cosmo stuff is a bit weird, the documentation is older than the FD so some of the terminology is slightly different, like the abbreviations for the solenoid names. I'm trying to figure out which one the precontrol is vs the wastegate control for example. And it looks like the Cosmo has some extra stuff, like a variable exhaust system or something.

Damn now I want a sweet sweet 3 rotor luxurious Cosmo in my driveway... It'd be like having an old S class coupe or something

DaleClark 09-01-17 11:27 AM

I do remember that the Cosmo had a variable muffler system, it was a butterfly valve in the muffler that was actuated at certain RPM or load. Not sure if it was an electronic actuator on the muffler or a vacuum actuated system (like the various twin turbo control bits).

The Cosmo was kind of a hybrid of FC and FD technology.

Dale

it looks like it is pneumatic, there's a solenoid valve for it. I'm not sure if it's vacuum or pressure.

i don't know if its vacuum or pressure, but it does cause a limp home mode in the ecu. it may be why most people had a hard time getting the stock ecu to work with just a half cut

Valkyrie was kind enough to help with the translation of the JC Cosmo pinouts for the ECU and the ATCU. See attached. This applies to both 13B-RE and 20B-REW.

I still have the whole JC Cosmo wiring diagram book sitting at my house, I just need to figure out how I'm going to get it into PDF form. It needs a commercial grade scanner for that.

Hopefully my shit translation won't ruin anyone's $30,000 three-rotor build...

(just kidding)

arghx 09-13-17 07:27 AM

I think if you have the S5 Turbo II and S6 FD pinouts for reference it should be pretty clear what most of the stuff is, as the Cosmo was sort of an in-between step.
