Japan series 6
was the japan model series 6 released before 93??
i'm thinking it was 1990 the jap series 6 came out and 93 for US-DM. |
Think it was late '91, I've got a '92 type R sat in my garage.
|
I'm almost positive millspeed's correct, but it would be December '91. I own a December '92 FD.
|
it was 92 mate i've never seen a 91 FD go through the auctions in japan:cool:

October 1991.
In Japan, that's a series I (of the FD model) - "series 6" is australian terminology |
cool got it, just wondering what it was as we have a 15 year import rule where by we can import anything older than 15years easy as pie, and getting it registered is simple although they are thinking of changing it, so i just wanted to know the earliest i could import one from japan under the 15 year rule and that seems to be like october 2006 now... thanks for the info guys...

In any case, it's probably going to be very hard to find a decent 92 by that stage, let alone the 'rare as hens teeth' 91 build plate cars (which I, too, have never seen advertised - they probably sell them as 92's anyway) |
Originally posted by DaiOni Good luck - the way that rule is changing (seemingly takes a twist every six months or so), you'll be lucky to have the chance by 2006. Another small bit of trivia - in australia the s6 and the s7 were sold - and the s8 is now available for compliance (though still expensive - in comparison to the actual sticker price in japan). The japanese identifying system, is quite interesting -
10.91 - 08.93 is series I 08.93 - 03.95 is series II (possibly, these two build runs combined would be the australian s6 (and comparable US imports) - though I'm not sure exactly how early australia got the FD) 03.93 - 01.96 is series III 0.96 - 12.98 is series IV (and somewhere in that lot, is what makes up the australian s7 official imports) 12.98 - 10.00 is series V 10.00 - 08.02 is series VI (and from these we have what is known in australia as series 8) And to digress with a little more trivia - - there is constant reference on these forums to "99-spec" items, when in fact, as shown above, they could more accurately be called "98- spec" - The fabled "99- spec tailights" actually began in january 96 |
DaiOni--- I have been saying that about the lights for 2-3 years now and people look at me like Im crazy haha
|
"03.93 - 01.96 is series III"
that should obviously be: "03.95 - 01.96" |
10.91 - 08.93 is series I---this one really still is only 2 Hasei since they changed QUITE a bit in 93, brakes etc....
|
shamrock, it would be easier to shop around for a local series 6 then waiting till 2006, and even then most likely 2007. and like daioni said, it might change for the worst by then. of course if you want it as a race car you could always get it through cams.

Jap spec series-6 started sales in NOV-91
US spec series-6 started sales in APR-92 (although for reasons of stupidity all 92 models are called a 93 alongside the actual 93 models) Oz spec series-6 started sales in MAR-92 (thankfully here, the 92 models are actually called a 92 model) Basically the general consensis is........... series-6 92-95 = Worldwide export series-7 96-98 = Japan + Oz series-8 99-02 = Japan Although the "series" talk started here down under & is well established, its catching on throughout the world as its quite logical & easily identifies the versions or major updates within the generations. SA RX-7 series-I = 78-80 series-II = 81-83 series-III = 84-85 FC RX-7 series-4 = 86-88 series-5 = 89-91 FD RX-7 series-6 = 92-95 series-7 = 96-98 series-8 = 99-02 |
I live in New Zealand and we have heaps of the 92 range, I'm not sure but after looking over mine and others I would guess they are very similar to the American R1

Just check out the sales figures.... |
