J-Spec speedometer swap to US speedometer

So I have a 95 J-Spec FD with the stock speedo that goes to 180km/h. Problem is I live in Germany at the moment and I can legally drive much faster than that on the autobahn. My question is, can I get a US speedo and just swap it with my J-spec speedo? Would my mileage still read correctly (currently at 62k km), would it just be plug and play? I tried doing a search but seems like alot of people just want to make the j-spec read in mph instead of km/h. This is not what I'm looking for, for two reasons. 1. I like the look of the US speedo better (smaller numbers closer together) and 2. we actually use km/h over here so it would be kinda silly to change my car to only display mph. Any input would be awesome, thanks guys :)

and p.s. I don't want to buy an aftermarket J-spec 300km/h speedo because they cost around $500. Hoping it will be much cheaper to just throw a us speedo in there if possible :)

The mileage is "saved" on the speedo itself.
If/when you swap it, it will show the mileage the new speedo did.
I was lucky to find one with nearly the same mileage my original had.

Dang mayne, that sucks. So if I bought the aftermaket one it would mess up the mileage reading too? And thanks for the super fast response!

The reading no.
I changed mine (USDM speedo) to a euro one (320km/h) and it readed the kms done just fine.

Had to remove it some months later cause it started acting wierd (always though i was moving... even when i was parked, it read 10-15kms/h).

Searched around and no one else had that problem, so it was a fault on my unit.

Actually, it's a common fault, often an earthing issue.

O'rly?

Wierd thing about that fault was the fact it only happens when I'm using the PFC. On the stock ECU it worked great.
Guess I should take a look at the speedo and my groundings again.

So you changed your US one to a Euro one that only had Km/h on it? And it was just plug and play? or did you have to adjust anything to make it read correctly?

I might look into getting a Euro one if they go to 320km/h stock. Either way, the JDM 180km/h needs to go.

Yeah, bolt on. From behind they are exacly the same. Just like any other speedo (re-amemiya, mazdaspeed, etc)

The "real" Euro FD's come with 320km/h speedo's. I mean "real" cause some FD's here were sold with the Euro ugly rear bumper (due to the lack of fog lights in the USDM and JDM versions) but were infact USDM versions.

Mine was sold new here but was clearly a FD in stock for USDM.

Awesome mayne! That was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the help.
