iridium plugs
 

Just wondering if anyone has has any probs with denso iridium plugs for the fd.
Did a service about 3 weeks ago, changed oil filter, oil and put a set of £120 iridium plugs in.
Drive the car everyday, Came to the car after work and sounded like it was running on one engine.
put the car on the ramp and cleaned the plugs and replaced the leads
Car then ran exerlent for about 10 mins then went back to running ruff.
If it were a piston engine it would be the eqiverlent to one of pots not fireing.
think it must be plugs, leads or coil pack.

whats yer opinions ?

Have you tried putting back in the old plugs? If they work fine, then you know it's probably the plugs that are bad. BTW, did you change the plug wires? Make sure they're seated well on the plugs and coils.

Possible that one of your coils is going out.

Does the car smoke? fluctuating rpms?

I had crappy luck with NGK iridiums in my WRX, go back to copper

Am gonna change back to the old plugs 2 morrow morning hopefully that may rectify the problem.
havent changed the plug leads but i plan 2.
Yes my car smokes and duz fluctuat rpm always sounded like there is a bit of a missfire, specially when i drive slow in 1st and second stuck in trafic on my way to work (5-10mph) is this normal ? allways considerd this to be a characteristic of the car (kind of hard to drive slow in bad trafic)

Hmmm, I've been told that my car missfires a bit. It's kind of hard for me to tell by listening to the exhaust..... But she idles steady, kinda high, but steady. If it makes any difference, I've got a streetported engine.

My experience with the iridium plugs are that they are race only plugs. They do not like normaly daily driving. They foul out very fast. The first time i used them at the track i raced with one set an entire weekend. When it was time to go home i did not change the plugs back, and drove the car home for an hour with the iridium plugs in.

A week later when i was going to take the car out for a spin it started fine. As soon as i pulled out on the road and was accelerating, it would start to buckle and backfire. Like it was missfiering on one plug. Tried to rev it in neutral, and sam thing happend. It would not rev smooth over 1500 rpm.

Got back to the garage, and checked the plugs and the front leading plug was all wet. It was dead.

This has happend to me a few more times. One time the car was ideling after a track session for about 15 min, and i was going to move the car. And the same thing. One of the leading plugs where dead. They where totaly black.

I think they are too cold to be used in anything els then a race engine. They need to be driven hard, otherwise they won't burn upp all the fuel.

The stock plugs work just as fine on the road. Just use a colder plug or turn down the boost.

iridium plugs for RX7 are race only plugs :)

Im gonna change to NGK B10EGV/B10.5EGV/B11EGV plugs to next year. They are very good, and do not foul out so fast as the stock or the iridium plugs.

ah this explains a lot.
My car is only driven hard once a week for maybe 15mins (i hardly ever get 2 redline it).
the rest of my driving is un UK towns to work and back in rushhour so in the mornings i dont ever get past 2k revs and only ever get in 3rd at most and on the way home i have a very stedy 60mph drive back 4k max.
what ii the standard plug for RX7 NGK 9's i know but what do i order as most dont know what 9's are ? partnumber needed maybe.

dump .... or is it bump ? ah nevermind.

BUR9EQ - for regular 9's
BUR9EQP - for platinum 9's
you can get these plugs at any mazda dealership

They come in different heat ranges. I'm using regapped RX-8 Iridium plugs, 9's all around with no problems whatsoever

According to NGK.COM they said these plugs are bikes, scooters and snowmobiles...it also says they are fine wire plugs however...so, do they just happen to work??

As for the iridiums i changed back to the old plugs and all was fine then back to the iridiums and same pros, so its standard plugs for me.

In my opinion when it says for race and tuning perposes only on the packet im gonna belive it.

will save the iridiums for track days only (i have yet to experiance haha)
