Introduction from the far east - Japan

Have been enjoying reading this board for a couple of months now, and I feel it's time to introduce myself, or actually my car(s).

I've always been a great fan of German cars - have a midship Porsche Boxster S, which I really love - but have been pulled over to the dark side recently. :asthanos:
Last year I bought a 1999 Type RS RX-7, completely stock, except exhaust, and loved it so much that I bought another RX-7 this year: 2001 Type R Bathurst-R limited edition, from KnightSports.
It has a lot of goodies, and is my favorite tracktoy right now (I take all my cars to the track, where I can really enjoy them!):
* Knightsports Dual Front Pipe
* KnightSports Metalit Pro-200 Catalyzer
* KnightSports FD800TI exhaust
* KnightSports V-mount
* KnightSports Intake
* KnightSports battery stay + battery
* 4Beat-FD4 ECU + tuning
* HKS EVC EZII Boost controller
* Defi BF meters (Boost, Water, Oil, Pressure)
* KnightSports Aragosta suspension
* Ogura Carbon Clutch
* 1-way Cusco Differential
* Carrozeria DRZ90 CarNavi + ETC
* 5Pt Roll Cage

Do I have to explain that I absolutely love this car?

Hope you like what you see...

I will post some dyno sheets later if there is any interest...

Not to anyone in America. I think everyone here would give a nut to get their hands on either of your cars.

Anyway, next time put your pics in the stickied pics thread at the top of the forum.

Actually both the white and yellow one have Aragosta's...
Pics of the yellow one with Knightsports Aragosta's attached.

Next on the list are Endless 6POT brakes (current rotors start showing cracks):

I have the Endless 6Pot Mini, Inch Up Rotor kit installed on my FD. I love it, but now I want to upgrade the rear brakes to 99 spec sizes and install a balance controller.

Also, if you could get some pics of the cage next weekend, just bump this thread up. Ill subscribe.

What are your impressions on the Endless calipers? Day and night different from stock?
If you take your car to the track, do you feel that you have much shorter stopping distances? Which pads are you using?
There is not many RX-7s around with the Endless brake system, most the of upgraded systems in Japan are Brembo F50 kits.

Not sure if I have this right, but even 99 specs have 2 sizes. My TypeRS has the bigger brakes for 17inch wheels, but the yellow TypeR has the smaller sized rotors for 16inch wheels...
Can anyone confirm?

Cage: will do.

I must admit I have very limited experience with the brakes as I've only put maybe 1000 miles on them, and none on the track. However there are quite a few backroads that I like to frequent and by the end of them on stock brakes you could feel the fade start to show. Because the straights are so short you're constantly jumping on the brake pedal, and with my stock brakes (which I will admit the pads were old and worn) it would get soft. The Endless kit is total night and day compared to the stock set up and the craftsmanship of the kit is absolutely superb. I am running the Street-Spec pads, I did not upgrade my master cylinder either and I have not had any issues with pedal travel or pressure. The brakes bite hard, and on occasion I've locked the fronts up for a second, which is why I desperately want to upgrade to larger rears and a bias controller. I think you are correct that the different models of 99 specs have different brake sizes, I should have been more clear and said 99+ RZ rear brakes, as they use a larger rotor & caliper combination.

So sweet. These were top on my list when I was looking for suspension but in the states they are so expensive. I went with the Endless coilovers. Still pricey and still really good. I have lots of pics on my site, which is currently down due to DNS trouble.

I have looked at their brakes too. They make nice stuff. I bet you will be happy.

Dude - how are you able to swing two parking spaces in Tokyo? I thought that in order to register, you had to prove you had a parking spot and those cost like $300-500 a month.

Back to topic - I have driven the Boxster S and while I was impressed by the steering feel and the low inertia when making rapid left and right and left turn, I wasn't too impressed with the ride (soft) and power (soft). They say the Cayman is much better but have yet to try it.

$$$$$$$$$ and/or certain friends probably...

what's most fun is paying $200+ for road tax annually and $400+cost to repair ridiculous things they say they won't pass it for at inspection every 2 years in conjunction with the compulsory insurance. Then there's the fact that most roads are 40-50km/hr with cameras everywhere and the 'expressway' is ~80 km/hr (you can speed if you know where the cameras are at...until they move them and/or update them with the radar paired with the motorized cameras), which all results in it taking 2 hours on a good day to travel 15 miles. It's almost silly to have a car around here....especially since with a motorcycle you can drive between the cars caught in traffic. I'm thinking about selling my FD even though I've spent so much time fixing "mods" and strange experiments in electrical wiring likely via the teenager Navy kid who decided to paint it this AWESOME ricer blue....

I miss the track. Where are you at in the pictures? PM me some info on how to get on it, if you would.

i think we all have forgotten the most importen question here.... refferering to the pictures, did you win by alot over that Bmw M3? Or did it take you in the end?

Let him through during my cooldown lap. :) I think I passed him later again.
But before that, no, he didn't get past me.

I don't, I have three parking spaces - also have a Boxster, remember? (sorry, couldn't resist). Seriously, working hard goes a long way.
I have a Boxster S with Sports Chassis, and I can assure you that the thing is fast on the track in stock form. Has only 250HP, but if you know how to carry speed through the turns, you can pass lots of cars - which I did. It's an extremely well balanced platform.

Uploaded some pictures of my cage - as requested.

cabaynes 04-13-07 10:00 AM

Great pics, thanks... those back seats always make me laugh though, I can't imagine stuffing anyone back there :) Do you have any info on the foam wrap thats on the cage?
