What up? I want to put my gauges and Power FC commander in the right place. I am curious what ideas are out there. I have seen a lot of pics of where guys have put their gauges and commander. Most of them are the same. Do you guys have any pics of other peoples interiors or of your own where there has been something done a little different? I am open to all suggestions, even if they sound dumb. I wonder, is there a way to mount the commander where the cigar lighter is. That would be a good place to see it, through the stering wheel.

I have also seen a buddy of mine's where he put his coolant temp gauge where the power mirror switch is. Looks sweet. Let me know if you guys have any other ideas about gauge and commander placement as well as any other interior mods.

If you want FUNCTIONAL placement of gauges and commander, here's my suggestions:

Commander -- mount in cig lighter slot. I did this by using part of a cell-phone belt clip and cementing it to a cheapo auto parts store cig lighter. It may sound ghetto but it actually looks very subtle and holds the Commander in a perfect position. It only blocks the brights on indicator.

Gauges -- mount in one of Frank's (flyrx7's) tri-pod gauge holders that mount in the center channel compartment. Very, very functional location and looks great.

I loathe mounting gauges on the a-pillar, because of both poor visibility while cornerning to the left, and because of easy visibility from outside the car, aka ricer-appearing action.

He must have been looking for the lowest visibility place to mount a guage. Dare I ask how he controls his mirrors now?

He just took his mirror control and moved it to the side compartment in the door. Pretty trick. He also has one gauge each in each one of the temp and fan speed knobs on the dash. He put those controls in his glove box.

Hey brother, thanks for the input. Do you have a pic? I think this is the way I will go. I like the line of sight that will provide me. Don't think I am a moron, but what is the center channel compartment? Is this the vacant place under the radio?

Since I'm still fairly stock, I've only got two aftermarket guages... Boost and Temp. The Boost guage was already mounted on a steering column pod when I bought the car. When I added the temp, I got a single pod for the 'A' pillar and trimmed the bottom of the pod at a angle to allow it to sit lower. It actually sits only slightly higher than the stock guage hood and I was even able to mount it without drilling into the cover. I agree it is just a bit harder to look ahead to the left apex, but IMO, more than acceptable. And I don't think it looks all that rice, especially since both guages are the same and closely match the stock guages in appearance.

Center mount is on the dash where there is a speaker near the windshield..

Sounds pretty dumb to me. Absolutely zero reason for it.

I didn't think the single pod a-pillar mount affected vision too badly, but the double and triple ones definitely do. I wasn't too clear above re: the "ricey" appearance -- I meant that the a-pillar location is where all the ricers put their gauges and I do everything I can not to be associated with that crowd -- especially with the Cali crack down on modified cars lately.

Other than the pics on Frank's website linked above, search for a post by Rich (GoodfellasFD3s) from a couple months back with his Defi gauge install. For some reason, I've never taken any pics of my setup, so I can't post any at the moment.

Fully agree with the A-pillar pods blocking vision. I was just thinking that a half hour ago as I was going around a sweeping right hander (RHD car with dual A-pillar pod).

If I were to mount the gauges again, I'd def go with the central speaker pod.

I had a single gauge mounted on my A-pillar and it didn't block my vision at all, but I can see how 2 or 3 would be a problem. I moved my gauge to the DIN panel below the stereo and I have room for two more. The DIN panel is a little out of sight, but not too bad for gauges that don't need to be checked every 2 seconds (everything but boost gauge IMO). I have my boost gauge mounted on top of the steering column for good visibility.

WTF, why does he have the w.temp gauge turned like that? looks totally out of line.

I'm sure he did it that way so while he is driving at speed on the track he can glance over and see all the gauges around the 11 o'clock position. Porsche guys have done that for years :)

Thanx, yes I did, and the idea just came out of the blue... :)

I have a boost gauge mounted on the A-pillar, an aftermarket temperature gauge mounted on the steering column and the thin innovative wideband XD-1 gauge Velcro’d on top of the stock temperature gauge. This makes for a very clean / usable setup that is barely visible from outside the car. When I had a PFC I made a mounting bracket that hung the commander from the cigarette lighter.

Does the center "Damian" mount disable that speaker? I've got two already on the a-pillar. I was thinking of adding an oil temp.

Yes, the whole speaker assembly comes out.
