Intercooler question.

I have Greedy SMIc..
Is it okay to alot of water going in to IC?
I made HUGE custom air duct and when it rains.. huge amont of water goes in to that IC.. is that safe?

Street King Apr 24, 2002 05:35 PM

black99 Apr 24, 2002 05:37 PM

How about that your own custom liquid to air intercooler.. lol But no I don't think that's too good..

Fstfd3spow Apr 24, 2002 05:37 PM

is that really bad thing?

brads Apr 24, 2002 05:40 PM

Fstfd3spow Apr 24, 2002 05:45 PM

Do you mean into the IC piping or just into the IC fins/veins?

Huge is relative....do you mean gallons or a cup full?

Damian

legendr35 Apr 24, 2002 05:56 PM

i don't think there is a problem if the IC fins are hitting water

Fstfd3spow Apr 24, 2002 05:57 PM

just cup full actually.. to front of IC.. (face of IC?:)
I heard somebody was saying it will help to cool down the intercooler... something.. but someone please explian to me.. :)

thanks alot

black99 Apr 24, 2002 06:12 PM

It's just touching the front face of the IC then? Not inside the intercooler? If it's just on the outside then it shouldn't be a big deal, it might cool the IC down a little but I wouldn't count on it a whole lot. I was worried if it was inside the IC in huge amounts that it would end up in your throttle body, etc..

can you post a pic of your greddy smic duct, i need to make a duct too.

Johnny Apr 24, 2002 06:28 PM

ppl i think he is just talking about water on the fins...not actually water being added to the air going the the manifold...which would not be a good thing..

that's the wrong kind of water injection :)

Fstfd3spow Apr 24, 2002 06:30 PM

NOO:) I should make it clear :) My bad.
NOT WATER INSIDE OF IC.. Water touching front side of IC..

Sorry no picture :(

This is no different then a FMIC which will be getting sprayed with water anytime you drive in the rain. It should not be a big deal as long as you don't run a garden hose up to it or something. Rain water can't be that bad unless it's a flood. How is your duct any different than the stock duct? Is it larger or does it go out a different location or what?

Fstfd3spow Apr 24, 2002 06:39 PM

I just made it Big... it center of front bumper.

I made it out of plastic stuffs.. but its not that strong.. so.. im t hink about putting stock one back in.

Okay then....You've got MAD cooling then. It's perfectly safe.

A friend of mine has a water spray for his 180SX. It turns on when his intake temps reach above 70 degrees and when the injectors are firing.

Fstfd3spow Apr 24, 2002 08:06 PM

Actually i made "home made" water spray system for my Ic :)

I was actually checking that was safe or not..
i guess its safe :) thanks alot guys
