intercooler install help
i recieved a new free intercooler and piping from someonesaid to be for a rx7.Its made by xs engineering i guess cuz it says xs power on the top.It has the inlet and outlet both on the front. It only has a tiny bracket on the front right side which couldnt alone support it.How should it properly be supported or am i missing something from the kit
It is my understanding that this intercooler is supported mainly by the inlet and outlet pipes. It basically just sits in place. I could be wrong since I donlt own an XS intercooler but I am pretty sure I read that when researching a while back.
If you do a searc h I am sure you will find the answer to your question. |
Do you have a picture? If this is what I think it is, it's the XS Power stock mount IC which will require you to supply hard pipes(I think XS Power sells hard pipe kits for like $100).
The bracket you describe sounds like the bracket for the AST. Do not use this bracket, as it breaks off, then your AST goes flopping around freely right above your belts. |
As mentioned, is a SMIC which is just "wedged" into place by the piping (nothing to bolt it down). Don't worry, once you have a proper duct and piping installed, it's not moving anywhere.
heck without the duct, it's not going anywhere. My stock IC is only held in by the piping and it never moves.
i cant see you needing hard pipes to keep it in place... where the intercooler goes, its a pretty tight fit so i doubt itll be bouncing around anywhere unless you doing somewhat of a safari in the heat of africa and even then, you have bigger issues to worry about.
can i or should iuse the stock air duct,or is there an aftermarket one available
Aftermarket ones are availible, the stocker will be too small. If you do a search for "XS Power" in the title, you'll find a somewhat recent long thread where ducting options are discussed.
i ran the the pettit cool charge III duct fit the entire area - the angle of the ic to rectangle duct
