intercooler help.
hey i got a single turbo and no FMIC. im looking and i was wondering what the best specs were for it, and if it matters that the pipe comes out on top or sides.
& any good places to look for the FMIC with piping? reasonable prices? |

FMIC is no good, id definately get a nice big Stock Mount like the Pettic Coolcharge III

i personally like front mounts i never have a cooling problem with my koyo rad. it depends what power you want 350-400 hp id go with a greddy 2 row front mount. anything more a greddy 3 row you'll be surprised you can run your car hard and these intercoolers will still feel cold to the touch i love them!

^^the problem with the FMIC is that you will experience more turbo lag with the distance the charged air will have to travel from turbo to intake. they are also a little bit more involved to install. having to stand the rad up and so forth. some of them also require the removal or cutting of the rebar and stock front bumper. and then your car is very vulnerable in even a low impact front end collision. Road debris will also damage them so i would recomend running a mesh screen in front of it.
on the Plus side they look so damn cool when mounted in an aftermarket front end. |

Why do you say this? I had a Pettit SMIC on my car, when I decided to drop in the new motor/turbo setup I sold it for a Greddy 3 Row FMIC, reasons being... it's out of the engine bay so no heat soak, it's huge and should cool down anything, and got to move the radiator to a upright position. I have heard some people say they have had cooling problems with FMIC's but I haven't! I have a PWR radiator, I removed my AC system because I have never had AC in any of my vehicles so decided to ditch it... one less thing in my engine bay, it's a plus to me. If you want to turn your fans on before it's set temp. press the ac button and change the fan speed from 0.
If you drag race your car, then a FMIC is a better fit as you get maximum airflow for your IC without heat soak issues getting up to the line. |
