Its time to get rid of the stock airbox!

Surprisingly, I can't find any solid info on the intakes that are out there for the FDs. Can anyone point me in the right direction or share some knowledge/experiences?

Right now the Apexi RS intake has my eye, but I dont know if its worth while.

I used had the pettit intake setup with the ebay pipes... the ebay pipes for 20$ was a great investment to me, the turbo noise did increase though.

I have the Apexi intakes but Im not sure if it really matters which inatake you get. I bought the Apexi one because I saw a stock rx7 dyno 5 HP and 15 fLBs. more with the apexi intake so i thought that was good for me.

I am partial to the Pettit. It independently proven since Pettit builds and races thier cars plus you can hear the turbos spooling with it on. It was kind of a pain to put in the heat shield.

all depends how you want to set up your car. dont just think intake, think ahead about which IC you will want to use etc. (i.e. if you want an old school look with a large SMIC. i would look for a m2 airbox or equivalent). the apexi's are nice and i know will fit with a knightsports vmount, but you have to use smaller k&n filters. pretty much this debate is subjective and your just gonna have to figure out how you want to build your car yourself in the end. so just keep in mind of future mods that will compliment the intake. you dont want to have to spend money on something you wont be able to use later on.

I all ready have an intercooler out of a 911 hooked up - any intake will work with it as far as fitment is concerned. As for the future...well that is 3+ years off and has 8 pistons :)

Yes,those are the Pettit intakes..I have them on my FD and am happy with the fitment,and the louder turbo spooling sounds great.However,I could probably use some new filters.

The pettit kit is way overpriced. If you were going to go that route, I'd recommend the Fighter's Garage kit instead. Scroll down this page a bit and you'll see it. Dale Clark worked with these guys to make a cheaper yet great working alternative.

keep the stock box and do the adam c kit with a k&n filter. it will work just as good as any box on the market.

Yes, that is what I am running. It does cost a bit of money but I don't necessarily think that it is overpriced. Check the 3rd gen parts for sale, I pick up mine brand new for cheap money from someone who decided not to use it. The M2 is going to be hard to find since they are no longer manufactured.

You must not've clicked on the link I provided. The Fighter's Garage intake is practically the same thing as the Pettit TKT intake, but it's half the price. But yes, if you wait long enough and look hard enough, eventually you'll find a good deal on whatever it is that you want.

Keep in mind that Fighter's is basically a copy of Pettit's. The copy is always cheaper.

on my old FD, i built my own "pettit style" intake, it was less than 1/2 the price:

eBay polished pipes
(2) K&N filters
(1) K&N filter breather filter for the air pump bypass
one small piece of aluminum that i cut into a heat shield

I think I might do the same thing for my current FD, unless of course i can find one of those beautiful carbon fiber M2 airboxes... :D

I was just going to say the same thing. I bought one last week.. havent received it yet but from photos it looks great. No reason to spend the money on pettit over this one.

I personally like PROVEN performance. The design on the fighter is a little different. Plus Jeff at Pettit is a great with customer service. Cam (Pettit owner) is also an awesome guy to talk to. Everyone has their own opinion and opinions are like :buttslay: , everyone has one!

So just because the fighters garage intake is cheap and newer than it doesnt work as well as pettit? Sounds a little silly to me. They both use the same filters and are the same style (no box). I don't see how there could possibly be a noticable difference. Whatever helps you sleep at night i guess.

after seeing the "fighters garage" intake kit being sold for only $189 (shipped) i was wondering how much the same kit would cost if i bought the parts myself.

now, after searching, here is the parts this kit consists of (from what i can tell)

2.5" ID, 3" long, 3-ply, Silicon Couplers - $6.59 each (+ shipping)

2.5" OD polished intake pipes - $65 (shipped) [source: eBay]

K&N Filter (part # RB-0720, with 5-degree bend) or (part # RD-0720, no bend) about $40 each (shipped) [source: eBay]

Estimated parts + shipping total: $155 - $165

If you feel confident in ordering from 3 different places and putting it all together, you could save yourself about $20 - $40 compared to the "fighters garage" intake. compared to the pettit intake (which doesn't even have polished pipes) you're saving well over $200

I have the sr motorsports intake which is pretty much the m2 intake. its good but expensive if bought new

Christ, after reading a few things here recently, I wouldn't ever buy anything from SR Motorsports. Thank God I didn't get my flywheel from them.

whell i got the ebay pipes which fit nicly and then got 2 k&N air filters which would be alot cheaper than pettit

huh??? where did that come from?

don't tell me something i don't want to hear...i just ordered a flywheel from SR Motorsports! what is your concern with SR?

i found this thread about the SR Motorsports intake, but it was the buyer's own mistake. apparently there was nothing wrong with the product, he just didn't know how to install it

There are posts all over the board about how they send you parts that aren't what they say they are, such as Mazdaspeed Power Plant Frames, rebadged clutch and flywheel kits, the "Ultimate Radiator" which is actually just a Koyo, etc. etc. Here are a few posts from the SRMotorsports thread in the GG/BG section.

There's more about him all over the board, but you get the picture.

yeah ive heard bad things about sr also. ive only bought one thing from them and i bought awhile ago when there wasn't bad things being said. they cant mess up an intake, can they? then again...

I've been trying to get my hands on that exact heat shield for some time now...
