Intake Installation?

How would you rank the difficulty as far as installing the apex power intake with aluminum hard pipes?

The pipes should fit pretty well from how I see it as I got the ones from the RX7Store.

1/10. It's really easy. Should take about 30 mins, including uninstalling the stock airbox.

Things you should know:

-You may need to bend the brackets to get the intakes to fit and get the hood to close
-There is a hose coming off of the bottom right on the back of the stock airbox, it is currently hooked up to nothing, and it has no place to attach on the APEXi intake. It does nothing, don't worry about it
-Get a big ass pair of pliers for the large hose clamps
-Don't forget the restrictor in the hose going to the airpump. Your car will moo like a cow without it.

If I just use the piping that's attached to the air box, I shouldn't have to worry right?

Cause there are only 2 aluminum pipes and I believe they are the main ones going into the turbo's?

Well that depends. Did you get just the APEXi intake kit, or did you get the intake kit and the hard pipes.

The APEXi kit ( http://66.216.67.51/product.asp?0=214&1=317&3=327 ) consists of two aluminum pipes which connect the cone filters to all of the stock intake hookups, including both turbos, the airpump, the BOV, etc.

The aluminum hard pipe kit ( http://66.216.67.51/product.asp?0=214&1=321&3=356 ) replaces the rubber hoses between the stock airbox or an aftermarket intake and the turbos. It doesn't replace all of the other hoses.

The reason for the restrictor pill is because the APEXi intake flows more (this is arguable) than the stock airbox, and because it feeds the airpump more air than it is calibrated for, it needs a restrictor. Come to think of it it wouldn't matter if you had the intake pipes or not, you still need to put the restrictor pill (which comes with the APEXi kit) in the hose that goes to the airbox.

Sorry if that was more complicated than it needed to be.

I got the intake kit from the RX-7 Store and the hard pipes to connect it to the turbo's.

I guess I should be good and once it arrives I shall be happy. =)

I just ordered a new 4 channel amp too with a set of tweeters so this car is almost ready to go. =)

Next mod is a FMIC with New Upgraded Fuel System with Stage 3 Upgrade from BNR. =P.

Hopefully by next year or over winter. =)

Ok, either way you still need that pill.

Thats what I thought too, till I blew my motor. Now nothing that I wanted to get this summer was gotten. Frickin apex seals...

Well the engine has a rebuilt from KDRotary so it should last a while as it only has 38K Miles on the engine and its pushing strong.

NorthwindHost 10-09-03 10:33 AM

What does this pill look like, and where is the pipe that goes into the air pump?

Rx-7$4$me 10-09-03 10:44 AM

the pill is a big silver cyllinder with a little hole that goes through it lengthwise. It goes in the hose that connects right up next to the UIM

Seldon 10-09-03 11:38 AM

Whats a less restrictive intake, an HKS J-Spec, the Apexi, the Greddy, or the racing beat CAI hooked up to the stock air box??

john

Rx-7$4$me 10-09-03 12:21 PM

id say that the greddy and the HKS are the least restrictive, but dont filter as well.

NorthwindHost 10-10-03 01:33 PM

Ok, I guess I will do that today.

Car is needs body work cause some idiot hit me. So in the meantime I might as well work on the engine bay.

Now does it go to the air pump or to the UIM?

BigIslandSevens 10-29-03 10:32 PM

UIM

NorthwindHost 10-29-03 11:02 PM

Are you sure cause I hooked it up to the long hose going to the UIM and it was making this nasty sound.

Are you guys sure its not to the airpump?

PaulyDee 10-29-03 11:33 PM

The restrictor is used to muffle the sound from the air relief of the air control valve. That is the fitting on the passenger side of the UIM.

The sound I am refering to is commonly known as the mooing sound, from some of the earlier K&N style intake kits.

The airpump should be unrestricted.

NorthwindHost 10-29-03 11:36 PM

Ok. I have the Apex Power Intake.

Now is it the hose all the way to the left, the middle, or the right?

I believe the middle is the one that goes next to the UIM. The one on the right goes to the air pump and the one all the way at the left goes to?
