Which intake with the ebay IC?

So I picked up one of the ebay IC's for the time being until I save up enough for a single kit. I was wondering what intake you guys are using with these? I was going to get that Fighter's Garage intake that Dale suggested, but there's a hose of some sort that looks like it'd be in the way since the IC uses a straight pipe that comes off of the turbos instead of the curved stock pipe. Any suggestions?

I just used 2 universal K&N cone filters attached to the Bomz hard intake pipe kit which can be found on eBay. I have not tried to use the pipe that come with the kit which is designed to run from the turbos to the intercooler. I instead used the stock crossover pipe and twisted my Greddy S pipe sideways. The S pipe fits perfectly this way.

This is temporary for me as I still need to buy a BOV to fit the flange on this pipe.

If you seach the threads about this intercooler or search under my user name, you can find pics of my setup.

^^^ Same here.

I think the fighters' garage intake can work, but I was thinking that the airpump hose would touch or get in the way of the turbo piping for the IC.

I wouldn't it comes with a hose and a cap you choose which you want to use. I am sure it would fit.

Same as above, I use the cheap $25 intake hardpipes from eBay with K&N filters. Though I've shifted the I/C over to the driver's side a bit with a turbojeff slim battery tray. Just finished fabricating an aluminum duct for this setup last night, no pics of it yet though. Also, I added a fighter's garage intake heat shield and AST. The y-pipe outlet elbow was part of the stock I/C piping but I've since upgraded to a 90 degree silicone bend that has a tighter radius for better hood clearance.

So you can cap that hose off? The one I'm talking about is in Armitage's picture on the left, next to the black intercooler pipe and it has a blue breather on it.

If you cap that off, the airpump can't breathe. I think he means you can cap off the bung (huh huh) on the intake pipe and just let the airpump get unfiltered air or put your own mini-filter on it like in my pic above.

This is my setup. The ducting is temporary, until I get a more suitable one. I don't have issues with the intake temps, though.

Sorry for the quality. It's the best my Treo can do.

^Is that just an ebay intake kit as well?

Montego 03-28-07 06:28 PM

how about an M2/rx7 fashion/Rotary extreme CAI?

K&N filters + ebay intake + ebay IC = the $250 package :)

It's ok. I know I'm cheap.

Montego 03-28-07 07:22 PM

^^ hey if the setup is actually efficient, then it's the smart thing to do.

Smitter 03-28-07 07:49 PM

its gotta be better then the stock intercooler
just make sure there is no welding shit on the inside of the intercooler or its blowing through your engine

XxMerlinxX 03-28-07 08:08 PM

Sealed up the intercooler and blew some air through it, nothing came out of the other side, so it should be okay. Guess I'll look on ebay for an intake kit then too.

I dyno'd at 286whp with the stock IC and Apexi intake at 14psi.

The way it runs now... I would put money on getting +340whp at 13psi.

dradon03 03-29-07 09:54 AM

340 whp..... yeah I would like to see the dyno on that one what are the other mods?

BTW when I meant cap I though you wanted to seal it on the Fighters.

Regardless, goto Dale's site www.clubrx.org follow his writeup on the moo and just put a chair leg from WalMart on the airpump and vent it.

There is already a cap that is vented that comes with the Fighter's kit.

PowerFC
SMIC
Intake
manual boost @ 13psi
4 x 850cc
dp, mp, exhaust (all 3")
minus A/C
minus airpump/ACV

Is that good enough for 340? I do plan on visiting the dyno again once I tune out the sub <2k rpm tip-in.

I didn't mention anything about capping the Fighters intake. When I was shopping for the part, I noticed that the turbo piping for the SMIC comes up a little too high and would block any path from the intake to the airpump.

Not that that would be a problem since I don't use the airpump anyway, but that's the only feature that would differ from what I have on now.

dradon03 03-29-07 01:06 PM

I still think that 340 rwhp would be a little high on the setup you are telling me. 330 rwhp would be more what I would think.

Won't you be experiencing ignition breakup at those levels?

NeoTuri 03-29-07 01:29 PM

It's weird, the car can idle at a ~3-4% duty at 10.7 A/F, and that feels pretty smooth, but once I press the gas I get breakup until I reach a certain vacuum level.

I just have to tune it out. Either I'm not dumping enough fuel in or I'm not getting enough air to burn it.

dradon03 03-29-07 01:36 PM

Why would you use 850cc injectors? With the PFC I thought there was a gradual tradeoff between the two and that you cannot use both injectors at the same time. Wouldn't it have been much better to run 550cc's in the primary and 1600 in the secondary?

NeoTuri 03-29-07 01:49 PM

Depends on your preference.

850/850 has a smoother transition than 500/1600.

850 primaries will have a rougher low end unless you take measures.

Besides, I'm cheap. You only have to spot the money for a set of flow-tested 850's and a modified primary rail.

I didn't have to buy the 1600's, secondary rail (& fittings), resistors, or the DataLogit to program the PFC for 1600s.

-Edit-

And both injectors do work at the same time.

My max duty with the 550/850 setup hit 99% regularly
My max duty with the 850/850 combo rarely tops 80%
